There'll be a vaccine...the gov't says that it'll be out by fall, if needed. Do we need it? Only time will tell. However, although there is definently a need to be concerned, there is no need to panic. Its is the flu that we do not have immunity/vaccine to, and thus, it is getting more media then just the orginal flu that we are immune against. Personally, I live in MN,U.S., where the first confirmed case came out today, so I'll be watching it, but it definently is NOT panic time.
I can say is that it is starting to target adults now because there have been 3 case of Swine Flu in my state. Each person how got the Flu have been in their 30's.
Well, it's the flu so it can target anyone. It's just the deaths that have been infants and the elderly. The troubling thing is that the information we get is already tainted. Think about it: how many people are just sick right now with the regular ol' flu? Just by monitoring this flu it makes it seem like it's super aggressive. But maybe it's not any more aggressive than any other flu strain. Maybe the media is just covering it so much that it looks like this is the only flu strain around. But maybe it is really aggressive - I just don't know!
I think that the swine flu "andemic" will calm down fairly quickly...as long as the strand of flu does not mutate to the point that it is able to be given from person to person in different countries/states. So far, I do not think there are any secondary cases of people getting the swine flu; everyone has gone to Mexico and gotten it there.
so far the WHO are saying that it will probably be a mild pandemic also they said that by mid may their vaccine will be finished but then they have to manufacture enough for everyone
anyways i'm heading down to Ralph's amry surplus and pick me up some MOPP 4 gear the rest of yinz are screwed
Swine flu should be a minor ailment thanks to modern medicine, but in Mexico, modern medicine is absent. Swine flu was able to become powerful and due to the fact that people visiting Mexico came back into the United States, thus spreading the disease.
Being a relatively newer strain of it, we haven't been exposed to it before. So it will wreck havoc on the world's population till either a cure comes out or we build up immunities. Hopefully it isn't relatively that lethal to humans.
One of the main initial concerns was that humans, by definition, have limited natural immunity to this particular emergent strain. It seems by now that if people are sensible and reduce transmission risks, infection rates will be controlled, and if one suspects infection, prompt presentation will be sufficient because the virus is treatable and there are sufficient resources to treat.
So on one hand, new development that is probably concerning yes, but no sense of impending doom.

Luckily, my school is holding mass temperature taking exercises. At least it's a start.

I've been hearing about this in schools and places of employment. Some schools have been shut down if a student becomes symptomatic. What's funny is that if you have the virus, you're going to be contagious like 3 days before you are symptomatic. All these efforts are more out of desperation than anything. Schools know that parents are prone to freak out, so they're trying to do something - anything. But by the time you have a fever, you've already been contagious for a while.
thing about the flu is that EVERY1 in the U.S is freakin out about this flu.we all know alot died in mexico BUT WHAT WE DONT KNOWis that only a couple died here and that(no offence)we have alot more hospitals and better docters so y is every1 freaking out down here about the swine flu(here)instead of mexico?not tryin 2 be sarcastic.
If you have the swine flu, which I highly doubt, you should probably go see a doctor.
he means in his hometown, not on himself....
pretty much every single death because of Influenza A, is in mexico. So people generally do not have to worry in the united states or any other first world country because medical practices are generally advanced there.
Actually I think its Influenza B not A but whatever H1N1 is more simple, this is kinda funny though i was watching the tonight show and Jay Leno says "They told us today that the Swine flu isn't transmitted through consumption, so you gotta wonder what those farmers were doing..."
