New Hampshire recently joined Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Vermont in legalizing same-sex marriage.

This is obviously a big victory for gay and lesbian advocates.

Maine is also looking good in the fight for same-sex marriage, and may make it legal as soon as next week.

There is also a group called Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, a group of lawyers who led the legal fight for same-sex marriage in Massachusetts and Connecticut, who have set a target of bringing same-sex marriage to all New England states by 2012. Maine could make them only one away from their goal.

What do you think? Do you think they will reach their goal?

How long until same-sex marriage is legalized throughout the whole country?

This shows that the republicans in Texas are for the most part not as moderate as the rest. They won't be as easily swayed.

Ok, i go to Texas a lot. I have friends there. I consider myself Texan. You try to sway them down there, and be all governmental, they get pissy.

The only way Texas will ever be a blue state is if you go in there, take every registered Republican out of there, and replace them with a registered Democrat.

Hahahaha!!! I love texas. It seems as though we are in a losing battle. I don't care if they love each other, it's creepy and I'll just stay away from them but marriage!?!? Why don't we make it legal to desicrate churches why don't we? A marriage is between a man and a woman, and that's that. And gay marriage in a church of god? No, I will not go for it. That's sacrilage as far as I'm concerned. Oh and the entire nation, nope, ain't gonna happen. Arizona is impossible, that's probably the only complete victory. It's in the constitution! We win! And texas as the above map illustrates is to dang conservative to even think about it.

And gay marriage in a church of god?
I could write up a big post about how marriage is not necessarily religious, but I won't; I'll say this: If what gays do is wrong, that is between them and god. It is not your place to judge.

Well, your argument of "love is love" is not much better.
But it's true.
Aside: "Yeah, well... your argument is stupid too!" is not that great a defense.

Plus, we have science on are side.
Really? Show me.

Hopefully the entire nation won't be as close minded and prudish as TSL3 but this whole religion thing is starting to tick me off, wasn't America supposed to be the country that let anyone practice their religion, so why are Christians butting in and acting like they're the only ones in the whole country!? I mean seriously you have the Mormons or whatever down in Nevada taking multiple wives, and even engaging in acts of pedophilia, and they're worried about people wanting to marry each other!!!!

No idea what prudish means. Also mormons do not usually take multiple wives, only extremeists if you will. It's utah, not nevada. And this country was formed on christian beliefs in part. And yes I am a closed minded redneck. I know you didn't say redneck, I'm throwing it in before you say it.

Anybody that is against homosexuality is just as ignorant as people that hate other races. I'm looking at you Ricador. The way I see it is that give it enough time, I don't know how much, and eventually it will be legal everywhere. It's an uphill battle that bigot morons are losing. Just like it was with Black and women voting rights or Aboriginal voting and constitutional rights here.

Jesus Christ, you've got to be kidding me. If I think that being conservative is creepy, should I make it illegal? No. It doesn't matter if some people think it's creepy and not what nature intended if we don't know what nature intended! Also, that's the same mentality that caused interracial marriages to be illegal, and look at how well that worked! It's not creepy at all, because it's not completely a choice, and marriage isn't all religious. You're right about Arizona and Texas not budging, but the USA wasn't founded completely on Christian values, and we shouldn't fall victim to the (nonexistent, not in the Bible) 'Christian values' that support bigotry. Marriage doesn't have to be religious, meaning you have no argument to stand on. Give a nonreligious reason to make same-sex marriage illegal, and cite that not allowing same sex marriage is in the Constitution somewhere. I guarantee you it is not.

To answer the question posed in the OP, I think we'll see much the same thing as we did with women's rights campaign, things will happen on a state by state basis until eventually the federal level concedes an obvious freedom.

As for people who say that gay marriage is uneccessary, then you are wrong. Civil unions don't carry the same benefits as marriage.

So at the moment, in states where it isn't legalised it's '' separate but equal only to the people who don't care to educate themseleves as to the differences.''

Interestingly enough, that group makes up most of the voters in the United States *gasp*

I am surprised it is still illegal, as by reading the US constitution, particularly the parts about all people being equal before the law. Marriage is a legal concept, and thus there should be an even standard.

I just thought of something why is it that you always hear of guys complain about gays but I haven't seen a single complaint against lesbians, seems to me that some people only want to think about what they like, anyway so many people are still discriminated in this country against transgendered, gays, lesbians, and even blacks. Theres an article I read a couple of months ago, about a high school student who'd killed himself because his own parents had rejected him. He hung himself 2 days before graduation.

^ In case you didn't get it, the kids parents rejected him when he told them he was gay.

Recently, I found this site, which lists ALL the federal rights denied to gays and lesbians, totaling 1,138.

The situation is real

They're people just like everyone else. You can't even tell most of them are gay unless they tell you.

aha, at least most people in this thread have the right idea. basically my entire year group in school is gay. gay is the culture here. i find it crazy that only a few states in america have civil partnerships, they're so common here in ireland. and as to Kyouzou, many people do have problems with lesbians, trust me, i should know. however, usually they associate lesbians under the 'gay' banner with homosexual men, so the discrimination is whole under one title; just as bad for us girls as the guys.
