What do you think of Hitler as a person. Some would say he is awesome some like me would say he wasnt a very good person. And maybe what your saying is true.
and sonam, the dude seemed relatively sane before the nazi biz.
If by sane you mean not anti-Semitic, then it is most likely his anti-Semitism between 1908-1913 when he was a down and out in Austria. During the war there are records from his comrades commenting on how anti-Semitic he already was. His views just became more refined after he joined the German Workers Party. His hatred of Jews was already there.
i think he made some paintings, but he wasn't a good painter
The area of art he was interested in was not very popular, and so he didn't have much competition to get into the arts academ. The fact he failed the exam shows how poor he must have been.
his anti0semetism was most likely born when he was living on the streets in the austrian capital when he wanted to become an artist. Alot of jews were rich, as they wer bankers, lawyers, etc, so seing some one 'below you' having more money than you...
Lots of people are raised in less than favorable conditions. Where I live, there are a ton of old baptists that are quite wealthy. I have a great deal of animosity toward these people, but I wouldn't kill any of them. Nor would I order them to be sent to work camps or anything like that. Certainly someone's environment plays a role in the kind of person they will become, but ultimately we make our own choices. A serial killer who was sexually abused as a child is still a serial killer and should be held responsible for their actions. But Hitler's life was not that of a lowly street urchin, as some of you seem to be making it out. In "Mein Kampf" Hitler tries to make it seem like he struggled through life. In reality, he was able to live for a number of years in Vienna off an inheritance from his father. That would indicate they at least had money. There is evidence to indicate his father was abusive, but again, that does not excuse anything. And the only time he was ever shot (as far as I know) was when he shot himself. This indicates to me that he knew full well what he was doing was heinously wrong and didn't want to face the consequences of his actions. Thus, there is no environmental excuse for his actions and he was mentally competent enough to understand what he was doing and the consequences of his actions.
He did many great things for his people....but he also did really "bad" things. Oh and I went to go see his hideout/nest thing when I lived in Germany. =]
