North Korea has defied world powers and carried out and underground test of a nuclear device Russian officials said is comparable to the bombs that wiped out Hiroshima and Nagasaki. North Korea has already tested out a rocket and tensions are increasing between the world and the Communist state. So, what does everyone think to that. North Korea has been told time and time again to step down from producing nuclear weapons, but now it has apparently made a successful one. What do you see happening as a result of this?
I wonder how the rest of the world is going to react to this and what action, if any, is going to be taken. Too often officials condemn countries like this for breaking U.N. sanctions or international law, etc. but nothing is done about it.
We need actions, not words. We need something to be done.
its not surprising.. just surprising it took this long for it to come to light.. we cant really do a whole lot in my opinion, maybe UN or EU spearhead it, but the US has a lot going on right now..
The United States is not supposed to be the global police, that's what the United Nations was established to do, somewhat. I think that the United States really needs to focus on its own problems and issues and stop worrying so much about the global problems.
There's political corruption, domestic violence, money issues, problems with our economy, etc. The United States is in no place to really do anything about it - yet we're probably gonna throw more money away dealing with this or something that has no relevance to us. Obviously this is a threat, but there are better ways to deal with it than just throwing money (that doesn't exist) at it.

Nice, but who are you preaching your amateur political philosophical BS to?
A: I agree with strat player. (mostley...). B: It is not a threat. Sure, they managed to detonate it. But they still have to get it to there target via missile. Remember there last missile test? It failed miserably and crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Plus, even if they did manage to get it to there target(probably the U.S.) without it losing power and crashing, our (the U.S.'s) defense missiles and planes would have it shot down in know time. We would be tracking it for the whole duration of it's trip. It would be a piece of cake. The missile may as well be a gum drop, it would not make a difference.
It doesn't matter if they have nukes or not- all countries should be allowed to have nukes if they don't use them. also, the USA's nukes are hundreds of times more powerful than the ones used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If they tried to use one of their nukes, North Korea would be glass within hours anyway. sand the nuke would be shot out of the sky. The threat is born of fearmongering, not logic.
I think the Red Scare is coming back to haunt us. Our excessive fear of Communism is giving us fear of what the improbable outcome may be, even though our defenses could easily disarm what power they already have. They should at least tell us where in the world they are testing their arms at before they test it so we have a heads up beforehand. That's what neighbors are supposed to do! How do you think I feel? We are practically right next to them, compared to you guys!
The nukes would only really be a threat to South Korea and Japan, both nations North Korea seems to strongly dislike and the US has interests in. However, letting North Korea have a nuclear weapon and not do anything about it could put us on a slippery slope to them actually being able to pose a threat to the US or them attack their allies of South Korea and Japan, both of which have US military bases. Most likely sanctions will be sought, but how long can it be intil sanctions lead to war, you can only cut a nation off for so long before they decide to strike back.

Are the US going to invade China, Russia, India, Pakistan or France for having nuclear weapons? I mean they have WMDs. Maybye the US should invade itself too? I don't see why some people are allowed to have nukes but not others.
maybe UN or EU spearhead it,
We in the EU are out of range, not our problemo. If the powers in the region can't dissuade N.Korea, what chance in hell does the EU have?

yeah it does seem kinda odd we invaded iraq because they had WMDs and would probably use them but what about north korea we know they have WMDs and they will more than likely use them so why the hell aren't we invading north korea?
Let's invade ourselves!
we've already invaded and taken over the US
China, Russia, India, Pakistan and France look out Team America world police are comin for ya

The US makes plenty of threats too. As does Iran and Russia and everyone else. They are no more agressive than any other state. Prior to invasion, Iraq was quite stable, as is North Korea. The US and the rest of the Western world's media for that matter, are the ones causing the instability.
But yea I know what you mean, by the US' foreign policy strategy (ie. arbitrarily invade, causing people to hate you) you pretty much have a duty to invade half the world.

The whole Iraq thing was pretty messed up but unfortunately you can't actually change the past but i think we've learned from our mistakes
it seems the US is John McClane and the world is our Nakatomi plaza. Saddam was that one blonde german guy karl with the steyr aug and bin laden is Hans Gruber. We go in, we get all bloodied, get glass stuck in our feet, and kill everybody while yellin Yippee-ki-yay mother f-er
