This thread is about the gross misrepresentation of books by movies! Name the one movie you've seen about a book you've read that HORRIBLY changes it. You know what I'm talking about. You read a book you like and get hyped up when you hear they're making a movie about it. Then you see the movie...and it is waaaaay different/worse than the book. Here's where you post the movie/book names and how they were worse than the book. Mine is Eragon. I mean...they changed/chopped off...sooooooo much! I was really disappointed in it. I mean, a few changes are okay. But the list goes on and on. They didn't mention Orik or the Twins, they changed Murtagh hugely, they changed Brom's method of death to a more dramatic(and stupid) thing, and they totally misrepresented Roran and Saphira. All I can say is, if they're making a movie about the second book: 1. I am so not watching it 2. They are gonna have serious problems about the crucial bits they chopped off of the first one. I guess it was a good movie. But I went into that theater expecting the book...and I got a totally different thing, and a huge disappointment.
Well, I'm glad everyone agrees on 3 whole movies to be the worst interpretations of books.
My personal favorite is Fight Club. Terrible interpretation of the book. However, when the author of the book was presented with the finished screenplay of the film, he said it was a great improvement on his book.
hmm I would find it easier to say what the best interpretation is(possibly Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe) since my sister told me coming out of the theater that she couldn't find a single thing that was left out or changed from the book itself, though as far as the actual worse one. The only movie that I have really read the book about besides holes(which they did an alright job at in my opinion) would be the Harry Potter series, which like everyone has already said, as the series went on they had to cut some stuff out, though in my opinion I would rather watch a 5 hour movie with intermissions because they didn't want to leave anything out, over a 2 hour movie that has cut out half the story, especially for the 4th movie because of some of the major events that were cut out in that one. So I guess either the 4th or 5th Harry Potter movie(makes me wonder what type of fate is left for the 6th movie)
Personally, I read all the harry potter books before watching any of the movies, and I still loved every single movie so far. personally, the movie of the da vinci code made me want to vomit. The book is so amazing, but when my parents took me to see it in theaters, i fell asleep it was so boring and terrible. Even tom hanks sucked in it and hes awesome.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix obviously. I know it was a really long book, but that was no excuse for a movie. the DA was using spells that were introduced in the 6th book. The Department of Mysteries looked like a weight room with crystal balls in it. It didn't say how Dumbledore was kicked out of Hogwarts and a centaur took over the Divination Class.
Also, I never read it, but I heard the novel First Blood was completely different than the movie (The one with Rambo)
I think it was the Golden Compass. After reading the whole series, it was so good and I was hoping for an awesome movie! But all I got was a film where they cut out half the good parts of the book, and they didn't go nearly as in-depth with Dust and Intercision as I hoped.
Read the books. The Golden Compass is the first in the His Dark Materials trilogy. They're really great books!
Wow a lotta people hate the Eragon movie and the Harry Potter movies. And yes, I highly doubt they will be able to make Eldest a movie. A real shame, cuz they are terrific books.
Oh and remember this thread is about bad changes in movies. NOT BAD MOVIES,but extreme misinterpretation of books by movies in their movie form. And please don't submit something you've heard/read about. Just stuff you personally know about. Thanks. Have a nice summer. No school!
inkheart probably i loved the book but hated the movie cause they changed a lot of stuff and cut some more and took things from the second and third and put them in the first.
The tally for Worst Book-Movie Switch You Have Ever Seen is... Eragon:8 Harry Potter Books:8 Star Ship Troopers:1(Did you know they made 2 sequels to that movie?) Fight Club:1 The DaVinci Code:1 The Golden Compass:1 Inkheart:1 And the current leaders for the Worst Book-Movie Switch You Have Ever Seen is....Harry Potter series and Eragon, at 8 votes each. By the way, I did not count people who said they heard about the book or the movie then saw/read one part and said they hated it. THAT DOES NOT COUNT, PEOPLES!
