This thread is about the gross misrepresentation of books by movies! Name the one movie you've seen about a book you've read that HORRIBLY changes it. You know what I'm talking about. You read a book you like and get hyped up when you hear they're making a movie about it. Then you see the movie...and it is waaaaay different/worse than the book. Here's where you post the movie/book names and how they were worse than the book. Mine is Eragon. I mean...they changed/chopped off...sooooooo much! I was really disappointed in it. I mean, a few changes are okay. But the list goes on and on. They didn't mention Orik or the Twins, they changed Murtagh hugely, they changed Brom's method of death to a more dramatic(and stupid) thing, and they totally misrepresented Roran and Saphira. All I can say is, if they're making a movie about the second book: 1. I am so not watching it 2. They are gonna have serious problems about the crucial bits they chopped off of the first one. I guess it was a good movie. But I went into that theater expecting the book...and I got a totally different thing, and a huge disappointment.
Eragon sucked sooo bad. I went to the movie with my friend and we were like WTF the whole way through the movie. Other than the changes the OP listed they also changed Arya significantly because in the movie she had raven black hair and green eyes I believe and that was one of her main characteristics. Also, they made her seem like she was in love with Eragon when in the book she clearly wasn't. They also changed the fight scene between Eragon and the Shade. The town that Angela was in was really really changed which made me kinda mad, and I really didn't like the end how they showed the dragon. Uggh that was a waiste of like 14 bucks.

I may repeat myself, but, again, Eragon the movie sucks, we all agree on that, but the book sucks too... If you want to read good Fantasy, try authors like Scott Card, Tolkien or Glen Cook, not and 15 y/o teenager who lacks in social distinction!
I think the fact that he's only nineteen makes it seem more distinguished. After all, not many nineteen year olds write good books. I agree, those are very good authors. If you like them, you might want to try the Dragonlance series. Very good. Varies in authors, though, so you might have difficulty finding it. But it's huge. Trust me.
harry potter... everyones already said. I Am Legend: they messed up the story a lot, i havn't read the book but the alternate ending is closer to the actual story. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: that was different than the books, yes, but Douglas Adams wanted it to be, just like how the books were different from when the series was a radio show. i need to see watchmen, if someone who has read and seen watchmen would like to post the differences thats fine

It's right, though an american named Patrick Rothfuss wrote a bokk at 15, called The Name of the Wind, wich is really great, not the best fantasy book ever, but really nice!

Dune was the worst transition I've ever seen. It was one of the best books I ever read, but the movie was complete trite.

I agree with moat, Eragon was an EPIC fail, but since there isn't many people who read the book they all thought it was so great. And unfortunatly, they are making a second one

Definatly not Lord of the Rings they may have had to leave out some things but those movies were still great. Eragon was especially dissapointing to me. Harry Potter always leaves stuff out so its to be expected at this point but i wanted eragon to be good oh well
