Today, Sarah Palin announced that she will not run for office in 2010 as the Alaska Governor.

This sets her up for a Presidential run in 2012, as she will not have a day job to contend with.

Now, personally, I find this a crazy move on her part. She has to be delusional to some degree.

Sure, she's very popular among the extreme right wing of the Republican party, but this is surely not enough to win an election.

What do you guys think of her chances in 2012? And do you think she would even be able to get the Republican nomination?

I don't see her getting the nomination, seems she's just shooting herself in the foot with this one, but it's her choice.

He is very ambitious, but I don't think he will achieve anything by this decision.

Lol, I was just about to make this thread.

According to msnbc.com she's resigning, not just not running for a second term.

Well, whatever the situation it, it's a stupid move on her part. She's going to fail miserably in 2012 if she doesn't improve her stance in the GOP.

Wow, apparently as this story breaks, she has also announced that she will quit her post in a MONTH, and hand over the power to the lieutenant governor.

This certainly is interesting.

I figured people were going to jump on this one.

And thanks for the article.

She still hasn't given us a WHY yet though.

I'm thinking that it's probably so she can run for Pres. in 2012. One thing that held her back in the last election was that she had to be governor and McCain's running mate. This will allow her to focus 100% on the election.

I think that she will not win, she doesn't seem enough capable of running a state.

Well yes, that's what I suspect too, as I stated at the start of the thread. But of course she's not going to tell us her plans yet.

I think it's an attempt to get out of the spotlight over the next few years. When you're in such a huge position of power, people will be scrutinizing your every action. I think that after the shitstorm she got from the election that she probably wants a break.

And I reserve the right to laugh at anyone who thinks that she's a viable candidate for the 2012 election, or any election after that.

Now for her to be completely shut down in presidential elections, and we're all set

And I reserve the right to laugh at anyone who thinks she's a horrible person. And ignorant people who seem to think their opinions the right one.

I think she just needs a break. If she wants to make a run at the presidency, you know what's stopping her? You left wing liberals. Every time she comes even close to a decision, be it good or ill, you blast her out of the sky like a duck. She's got my full backing if she makes a run for it, and I'm most definitely voting for her. Unlike some of my peers, who are making our entire generation look like a bunch of idiots, I can actually have my own opinion. I don't listen to the news, or my friends. I make a calculated decision based on what seems the most practical opinion at the time. If she does something that's truly a bad idea, then I won't vote for her, but if she's not a governor, she can't make a bad decision.

I never said she's a horrible person. She is a joke of a politician, though, and barely made a good running mate for John McCain.

The same thing that the far right does with Obama, you mean?

If she does something that's truly a bad idea, then I won't vote for her, but if she's not a governor, she can't make a bad decision.

She can't make any good ones either.

As if you would let her. If she can't make any decisions, that gives me no reason to move her up or down on me respect list. And right now, on a 1-10, I give her about a 7. While Obama is at 5. And Biden is at 3. And McCain is at 5 with Obama.
