Today North Korea sent a message to the US, in the form of seven ballistic missiles. Obviously, they didn't hit anything, but it is still going to increase tension between the UN and North Korea.
What I'm wondering though, is why in the world they would launch missiles that they know aren't going to get close to the US. Also, North Korea isn't exactly the largest country, and if the US was to go to war with them it would be over very quickly. North Korea wouldn't be able to match the size of the army, and our own nuclear weapons could wipe them off the map if we chose to use them.
How do you feel about the situation? Will the US once again be police of the world, or will we for once make the UN deal with this on their own? Is Kim Jong Il just stupid, or is there a reason he spends millions of dollars to develop missiles, then sends them shooting into the ocean?

Attacking North Korea (unless we are openly attacked) would be another mistake by America. We have already had several unnecessary wars in places that had things going on that the government didn't like. Heck, we have already lost one in the country already. Plus an open war with Korea would only damage nearby friendly nations like South Korea and Japan that are only a few miles away. On top of that, China still has ties to North Korea and attacking might only provoke a bigger, more deadly country into action.
Kim Jong just wants publicity. I believe he did the whole "Attack Hawaii on 4th of July" because of Iran's rioting stealing the headlines.

I don't know where you get your information, but SK is our ally and we have troops there already... NK is hostile against them. Believe me, we wouldn't be hurting SK in any way.

So erupting the now prospering SK into war won't be hurting them in any way? There have been only a few small skirmishes along the DMZ in the past decade, the most recent only involving warning shots.

Nope. Then, with NK reunited with SK after we win the war they can be more prosperous than before and then do not have to allocate resources to defending the DMZ.

And if we repeat history like in the Korean War, cause a Chinese intervention and ultimately lose it, chances are SK will be overtaken by Kim Jong and now instead of The People's Republic of North Korea, you have one big communist state of Korea.
Is starting a war really worth the trouble because they are launching missiles into the ocean?

North Korea has an Army of 7 million, ok. They have missles aimed at the US, ok. But Greens idea that America can just drop what there doing and go to war with North Korea isnt exactly realistic; What if North Korea is conversing with Al-qaeda or somtihn and as soon as the US drops its guard another terrorist attack happenes?
Well then it's in fear that they are following Jong and not out of ignorance. And I do blame the government, there's no ifs ands or buts about the fact that they are tyrannical. The country could actually be prosperous without it.

If NK were to go to war I think SK because if they do manage to win without anyone interfering they could use SK as say a 'hostage' rather then gaining more land, therefore basically having the US on their knees.
Well that would be the most likeliest course of action to me. Or maybe not.
If they did do that, action would definitely be taken against them. Sooner or later, they would pay for attacking SK.

I don't think the Russians are willing to let the Iranians launch from their soil.
