If you were a homeless person, and had nothing, would you do something really bad so the cops would bring you to jail and you would at least get food, water, and shelter?
I think I probably would, as I'd have no alternative. Also, London can get pretty cold in the winter months. There have been many cases of tramps getting arrested on purpose just so that they can spend the night in a cell.
All you have to do is tell a federal bank teller that you are here to rob them, and they HAVE to take you to jail.
On the other side, I would do as much crime as I could that wouldn't get me life in jail, hide all the profits, then when I get out, spend it. I would put all the money in a bank account opened under a fake name in a 10 year CD.

anyway if you see a homeless person on the streets and he's/she smoking or drinking alcohol don't give them money!, they're just gonna buy more cigarettes or more alcohol and not to mention drugs.
homless people are just bumbs who have no work ethic and no friends. The only reason you end up on the street is because you are stupid, don't save money, don't work hard, and have no friends you can fall back on.

ask the people who have lost everysthing due to the financial crisis, because some greedy bankers convinced them to invest into risky junk papers that got a great rating
