Since I have joined Armorgams . . .I see a lot of Atheists and their threads about why people believe in God etc . . . I wanted to start a thread about the bible and christianity.

The purpose of this thread is to debate a different book of the bible each week. We will discuss lessons, morals, and different stories.

We will have friendly debates. Please . . . if you are atheist or of other beliefs . . . you may discuss in this thread, just PLEASE no fighting, flaming, spamming, trolling . . . etc

This week we will begin from the beginning . . . .Genesis

One topic to discuss is this: Some parts of the bible are metaphorical, but to what extent?

Sorrt about the lateness of my entry, but my computer was out for awhile, and I'd like to say that LDS(mormons) are also christians, although people say their not, we have the same beliefs, just that LDS has an extra book.

The LDS are a cult and believe in people having come to America in barrels man... explain this please? Also they do not believe in a literal hell they believe in "outter darkness" whats so bad about that? Some of us like the dark. Also they do not believe in the diety of Christ. Yet you argue they are truly Christian and believe not in the diety of Christ nor in Hell?

Luke 9:23 "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

This is why Christians wear crosses daily, since we are followers of Christ!

I dont wear a cross cause I think it represents how he was killed, but its a good point, and by the way, this is suppose to be a friendly conversation, so stop putting down the LDS, sure we have the FLDS who broke off from us, they gave us the bad name, so stop getting mad at us

Sorry about my earlier comment! I should not have been derogative towards the LDS we all believe differently and I can respect that. And Kirby its a reminder of what he did for us the cross is an ugly thing and its true it saved us from the fall, but I can see both sides to the cross arguement. I myself wear one.

I will wear a cross but not a crucifix. Many people would and have called the Pope the Antichrist and the entire Roman Catholic Church a cult. No one is perfect, but we must see each other as Yahweh would have us. All the bickering and fighting just tears the body of Christ apart.

But how does God have us look on people? He told the Israelites to kill the Cannanites without mercy. He clearly stated "Jacob I have loved, and Esau I have hated" it looks to me that God does not love everyone but his own select few, also the statement in Matthew, "You shall call his name Jesus, and He WILL save HIS PEOPLE from their sins" Its rather clear in this passage that He has certain people, and He will save those people inspite of themselves.

the entire Roman Catholic Church a cult.

Balerion, religion IS a cult, as defined by the definition.
1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.

2. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.

3. the members of such a religion or sect.

So, yes, I think the Roman cathloic church is a cult.

It's still a cult, in either case.

A RELIGION, Like Christianity isn't referred to as a cult, its actually kind of disrespectful. Strange and unpopular religions are referred to as cults.

Then would it be safe to say at the very least Christianity was once a cult, being it was at one point a strange and unpopular religion.

A crucifix has a little Jesus on it. A cross or open crucifix does not.
