Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Thomas Paine, Gouverneur Morris, and John Adams, all took part in writing the Constitution. None of them were Christian. (Although Gouverneur Morris did have some Christian Ideals, he never considered himself Christian, but somewhere in between Christianity and deism)
Seconded. Thomas Jefferson has his own personal version of the Bible, still available today. He cut out the parts that didn't make sense to him. lol not exactly your typical Christian. He's considered one of the most influential deists in history.
Not anytime soon, but I'm confident that in the end it will be equal. In most cases, the people working for equality and freedom get their way, even if it takes hundreds of years. Depressing thought that it might take that long for people to stop worrying about something so petty as whether this person is attracted to males or females, though
Actually gay rights have already come a long way (though not all the way). There was a time when people could be sent to sent to prison for being gay (at least that was the case in Britian). Oscar Wilde (author, playwright) spent two years in prison after being prosecuted for "gross indecency" under the Criminal Law Amendment Act (passed in 1885). He was sentence to two years hard labor because enough evidence was presented to convict him of engaging in homosexual activity.
I agree that eventually the right to marry will be granted to gays. At least the legal right to marry not nessecarily the religious kind. Personally I hope it happens sooner rather than later.
...enough evidence was presented to convict him of engaging in homosexual activity.
Haha, just the way that's worded incites the imagination in some rather colorful ways. xD
But yes, things have definitely improved a lot overall and I'm content that eventually justice will be done. Often times it takes a younger generation coming into power to make such a transition, and I'm pretty optimistic about the generations following mine.
They care only because the church and the conservatives don't like the gay marriages. The church is powerful and the conservatives are many and their votes are important, so the government has to please them and does what they want.

Also it was considered a mental illness in the U.S. up until 1973 I believe.
To all the "It's against christianity" and "Christian majority of america." Education time. If someone's posted this rant, sorry. Everyones got it in their heads that christians are anti-gay to an extent because of the bible. The bible contains very little opposition directed at homosexuals. Leviticus 18 (unlawful sexual relations) is about the only direct one i can find. So i dont think the government cares due to religion, i think they care because change. Countries were founded in times where homosexuality was kept secret, so the majority of the population struggle to adapt to it. Simples. Having gay marriage in ireland has been a huge success.
im muslim and again its a sin in our religeon like the christians i this is a sickniss u are mentally ill and you need help im not saying we have to kill u but im saying just go to a phycaiatrist
