Playing a game on this site, I recently began to wonder, is it all worth it? I mean, are video games, and Flash games really worth our time? Granted, video games are a form of entertainment, no different than movies or television, but video games are starting to become more time consuming than any other form of entertainment. People are starting to become addicted and spend all their time playing video games.
Iâm certainly not one to speak. I wouldnât want to try to count all the hours Iâve spent playing on Armor Games. But in the end, is it all worth it? Is there anyone here who will be on their deathbed thinking âI wish I played more video games during my life?â
What if we took all the time we spent playing video games and did something else? Like spending time with our family, or friends, or taking our dog for a walk, or helping an old lady across the street? What if we started volunteering our time to help others instead of play video games? Wouldnât the world be a better place?
When it comes down to it, anything we do on this website is nothing but a bunch of 1âs and 0âs, just electronic data that at the end of the day doesnât mean anything. Iâm thinking about deleting my Armor Games account for this exact reason, because I feel like my time could be better spent. But Iâm also curious to hear what you have to say. What do you think?

No. It would be a different place, but better on the whole? Not necessarily.
Besides, you can say this of *any* leisure activity; including hanging out with your friends or family. Isn't that time you could have spent doing something productive and contributing to the greater good?
No, I don't think AG is instrinsically evil or morally wrong. Even if spending time with friends and family is more important, you can't really spend time with them *all* of the time; some people have hobbies that aren't group activities and enjoy doing things by themselves.
As for volunteering and not giving yourself any leisure time because you feel like you're not contributing to society or something... You have to ask yourself what sort of meaning life has for you, and what are the best ways to get that meaning. There are no simple answers.
There's no reason why you can't do good in the world, spend time with your friends and family, and play games. The idea that a person who relaxes by playing games is negative is ridiculous. Humans can not just work all day long without any breaks. This can be detrimental to your health over extended periods of time. (I speak from experience)
Playing games is only bad if it affects your school, relationships, or your work in a negative way.
I for one appreciate the artistic creativity and effort that is put into each flash game, so I enjoy their existence. However, I can't help but agree with you. With a flash or video game, we make no progress, we get no where in the world. But doing and performing the activities that you mentioned, we can take a step in the right direction to make the world a better place and spend our time on worthy things and activities.
I think AG is a good way to spend my time if I really don't have anything else to do. (play tennis, go swimming, or anything else.) I mean I go on AG regularly but only since right now I don't have a lot of things to do at the moment. So no, I don't think AG is morally wrong, I think it is a good way to waste your time IF you don't have anything else to do.
Honestly if I wasn't on AG I would be on my Xbox, and if I wasn't on my Xbox, I would be on Photoshop, and if not PhotoShop, then a computer game, and if not a computer game, then training myself to code in Action Script 3.0, and if not doing that, then the same thing for C++ for robotics....well that could be helpful actually, but my point is even if I'm not on AG I will be doing something in my office room practically all the time. AG is probably one of the least morally wrong sites out there in comparison to most. Newgrounds, 4chan, Youtube even. They all are filled with morally wrong people in my opinion, and at many times morally wrong content. So personally its hard to call AG morally wrong without asking yourself first "Whats not morally wrong on the internet nowadays?" I think that AG's games while time waisters, are stress relievers...just not in the same way as the mature section on Newgrounds. I think AG runs a bit more morally then most things in society, and on the internet, and honestly I don't really see it as morally wrong at all in moderation going by my religious beliefs(though sadly I don't exactly use the site in moderation mainly because the forums are addicting) If its a matter of what I could do I spent time away from AG the last couple days(along with today and tomorrow) move her stuff into her new apartment and paint her old place back to white so she can leave it. Other then that I typically wouldn't really do much more helping people if I didn't have video games anyways because I am typically lazy as a person.
No, AG is not morally wrong. If you play too many games, then you are morally wrong. If this site actually said "Hey, play our games and forget about friends and school," then the site could be morally wrong.
Ok i dont think its fair to make an assumption that its time wasting and we could do something better, perfect example: "Lets say a Doctor is a HUGE fan of flash games, he works 12hrs a day, comes home and spends 4hrs on AG, sure he wasted 4hrs but 12hrs he spent helping and caring for people" does your thread apply to him, "Any Doctors on AG??, just curious...." lol
Forums. They aren't wrong, because they can be used for intelligent discussion.
But they also can be the reciepe for hate (Punk Joke of the week...), and the center of stupid and dangerous conversation...
As an exemple, creating threads like (randomly of course)...Ninjas VS Knights, is it a good way to spend time when you could use it with your friends, or time to read a book, etc... But it also can be a good way to have a break, as for exemple me, at work, I'm so fuckin' boring that AG forums is like a breathe of spring (Jolene's joke of the day...), seeing you all talking about how Eragon is great, and how Linkin Park is, or not, NU metal...yes, it's quite good!
Oh, that would imply that Newgrounds, with its recently implemented Achievements System, would be morally unscrupulous! >
Doesn't Kongregate have an achievements system too?
But they also can be the reciepe for hate (Punk Joke of the week...), and the center of stupid and dangerous conversation...
Yes, the forums can be a center of stupid and dangerous conversation. That is why there are moderators roaming around with their banhammers and their magical abilities.
