Well, not really something that really exists...though I'm sure all kids think so.
SS Syndrome a.k.a Sick Student Syndrome
Cause: School
Well, I have a specal variant. Singaporean Student Syndrome. Here's our sad story.
Did'ya know some of us crazy Singaporean kids sleep at 2am?? On a daily basis? And no, we do not stay up that late to play WOW, Guitar Hero or to watch Lost.
No, we study. Then we wake at around 4am to 6am to get to school. Then we work all the way till 5pm, come home, eat, shower, sit down and study. Or do homework. Or both.
And not just us. Our parents love to just sit down and teach us, stuff us with herbal soups (to keep the mind healthy AND comatose), or to lay us down with a nice cane to work harder. And then at 2am, we sleep. And the whole damn cycle repeats itself in the morning.
And guess what? We don't have summer holidays. And some of us get sent to extra 'tuition' classes. And this whole thing starts when we're around 9 to 10 years old.
Alright, enough of my rambling....
So, just tell us some of your own school *cough* horror stories. And since school is about to start for you guys, (And end for us! Thank God!), let's hear some of them!
Wow. Only 2-4 hours sleep?! Sucks to be a Singaporean! Gladly i am a Filipino student... But the retarded teachers sometimes give us remedial classes for no apparent reason whatsoever. Plus... Bathrooms stink! LIKE LITERALLY.
Despite being exhausted every day in the past, I seldom got struck by illness. Mostly, I was drowsy in the mornings. I liked to go to sleep once I reached school.
I thought it was gonna be about exterminating Jews... Oh well...
Me too! I thought this was the SS!
After being a student here in the Philippines for the past four years, I'm left with a somewhat bad impression of the educational system.
Plus... Bathrooms stink!
They really do. And there's no tissue.
Before, I typically had around five to eight hours of sleep depending on the day. I'd wake up around 4:30 - 5AM, take a shower, eat etc. Sometimes, I'd fall asleep in the bathroom.
Once everyone was ready, after a while we'd all go out to school in a taxi. I'd usually sleep until I reached school around 6:15AM. Once inside my room, I'd sleep again if I didn't have anything else to do until 7:30AM, wherein school starts.
I'd better not elaborate further..
Well, I'll won't be in those conditions again.. Too bad for you Nich.
You are probably the only one I know of here under such torturous conditions. I think you'll have to blame either the Singaporean educational system, you being born there or the lack of Singaporeans here.
In the Chinese area your pretty much spent doing homework until midnight with only pauses for lunch, than get up at 5 to make last minute details to your work and get ready for school, than it's school at 7. (Boarding schools are worse)
Meh, here in Canada, it's perfectly fine. Relaxing.
That's what I thought of by looking at the thread title.
But really I'm not entirly understanding what your saying nicho...........

2000 word essay?! Very horrible... One of our teachers is very strict, he swears at us and even uses physical violence. Although the middle of his head has completely no hair which is disturbing.
Well my princaple ad my 59 yar old teacher were kissing......that was rather horrible.
So much for privacy..
Or there ws the time when i had to complete a 2,000 word essay in about 3 hours......
Oh really? That's bad.
One time, since the classroom was a mess, my teacher threw the entire class's personal belongings outside and put them up for sale. At least I didn't lose anything of mine.

Well...in China, mainland China that is, it's much worse. Bribing, pure oxygen breathing for keeping awake, pills to stop menstraution, it's quite common there.
2000 word essay?!
I freely write essays from a thousand to three thousand for exams. (2 hours, since I take advanced history, I'm some nerd reading political books). Fun actually, we see whose arms stay numb the longest.
