Is god willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both willing, and able?
then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him god?

That means you are an agnostic. Don't feel bad I am too however I'm not deciding between to ideologies, I know I'm an agnostic.

And trust me the world can end any day... it could end tomorrow or December 21st 2012 >.> but it probably won't end in 2012, probably a few hundred years later if you ask me... unless humanity shapes up then we can last thousands of years.

Maybe you could post some of the questions rattling around in your head and we could offer some different view points for you to ponder over. Might help answer some of those questions to get a fresh view point.

Well now, it can't be exactly the same. There are three commandments about honoring god, no idols, and not using god's name in vain. There's also one about keeping the sabbath holy or something.
I don't mean to split hairs here, though. But with this statement now unqualified, which commandments are left?

OK ...you got me there ...you're right, they are NOT EXACTLY the same ...what I meant to state is that they mean the same, have the same end result, if you will. I am usually pretty good at stating precisely what I mean so please bear with me if I make an error here and there. However the six remaining commandments do derive from natural laws:

thou shall not murder
thou shall not commit adultery
thou shall not steal
thou shall honor thy mother and thy father
thou shall not covet thy neighbors wife, house, or goods
thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

Those are not necessarily in the proper wording nor order.

Also, how do we know what the moral standards were before the development of religion?

According to Aristotle (known as the father of natural law), natural laws exists in the recesses of our minds to ensure collected and amicable co-existence; which means natural laws have been ingrained in us since the beginning of mankind. To me, they are a survival instinct. (By the way, NOT Aristotle's wording, my own interpretation of Aristotle's laws of nature).

Well if that happened don't you think the bible would have been worded a bit differently so that people didn't interpret it in so many ways???

but why would you want it in just one way?? then everyone would think the same way and blieve the same way and thats not free will. God wants everyone to think about things in a diffrent way than another person, thats why he made us so diffrent.

Also it's a proven scientific fact that if you hear a voice in your head and actually communicate with it and it's not your voice you're mentally insane.

albert einstein and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart both said at one point in there life that they hear voices ... were they insane ??

Here's a question why does god rely so heavily on faith when there are so many better methods at his disposal, if he did in fact exist?

Faith is the best thing for anyone to rely on, even God.... what other type of methods do you think he should use??

If any Christians out there want to tell me about some recent godly activities going on I would be happy to hear about them

Well here is a simple one ... You are alive , other than that, my pastor prayed for someone who had cancer *and the doc. said that she did* and my pastor said that she would be new if she would believe in it, well she did believe and then she went to the doc again ... and guess what ?!? nothing was there the cancer was gone.

lol apparently it's "mother mary appearing in sandwiches and potato chips" nowadays xD

lol, yea it seems like it is, but people who think they really see that .... now that is what I call a jesus zombie lol

well im christian but i still have trouble believing there's a god. im still trying to figure out if we're all gonna die in 2012

Thats all man, see man wants to think that he knows everything , when we are going to die, how the world started and everything like that. is the world going to end in 2012 ?? No one knows that but God, and God says in the bible, dont worry about it, just be happy now and live life, I will come When I come *sry I put it the way I like to say it*

that is very contradicting/stupid. So basically God gave us free will but if you don't use it in the proper way by following the right religion or believing the right thing then you'll go to hell??

albert einstein and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart both said at one point in there life that they hear voices ... were they insane ??

lol actually yes... They were smart and gifted but also that drove them insane.

very good point and I thought that once.... but its not stupid yes god gave us free will, and he gave us 2 things 2 pick from, Heven, God,Jesus, and living forever wit him.
Or Hell, Satan, Demons and liveing forever in lake of fire. Its really not stupid to me *and sry if you dont understand what I ment or said, tell me and I will try and say it better*

lol actually yes... They were smart and gifted but also that drove them insane.

yes, but that was after they had so many people try and kill them, or try and harm whatever they were working on, and they both believed in God, and satan tried to kill them *and he did just that* .....

How is it the best it's completely open to interpretation and very much fallible. 9/11 is a perfect example of how fallible faith is.

what other type of methods do you think he should use??

Something that offers some actual proof would be good.

but why would you want it in just one way?? then everyone would think the same way and blieve the same way and thats not free will. God wants everyone to think about things in a diffrent way than another person, thats why he made us so diffrent.

Let me get this straight. God wants us to believe in him and there's only one correct path. But god wants us also to believe in all sorts of different things. But if we don't believe in the correct thing we go to hell. WHAT?

[quote]albert einstein and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart both said at one point in there life that they hear voices ... were they insane ??

Well there's a reason why people say there's a fine line between genius and insanity.

Ok.... I don't get it lol that didn't address very well what I said, could you explain that a little more?

yes, but that was after they had so many people try and kill them, or try and harm whatever they were working on, and they both believed in God, and satan tried to kill them *and he did just that* .....

what??!!?? seriously address this ok

lol actually yes... They were smart and gifted but also that drove them insane.

just a sidenote:
Genesis was written after Exodus.
The Jewish people needed reason to be closer to god, so, some guy wrote a book. Full of nonsense.
While Exodus is believable, as are all the other books of the bible following it, Genesis is a fairy tale.
God is only there because we make him to be God. And miracles are fake.
And people who obsess over these kinds of things are crazy.
Didn't the Romans also believe in gods? and Egyptians? and Greeks?

yes and no, some of the people that had faith in God, had a feeling not to go in to work that day, they dont know why but the just did not want to go, that is faith in god. god saved them. he wanted to save all the people but some of them did not listen to the holy spirit inside of them.

Something that offers some actual proof would be good.

if you look, you will find. there is proof that there is a god, you just have to look through chilidren's eye's.

Let me get this straight. God wants us to believe in him and there's only one correct path. But god wants us also to believe in all sorts of different things. But if we don't believe in the correct thing we go to hell. WHAT?

yes and no, yes he wants us all to think of him in a drffrent way, but there is only one way to get to heaven, just like there is only one way to eat or something in that matter.

Well there's a reason why people say there's a fine line between genius and insanity.

lol, okay I will not fight wit that , it is very true.

Ok.... I don't get it lol that didn't address very well what I said, could you explain that a little more?

lol, I had a feeling that you would not.

what??!!?? seriously address this ok

it says *in the book my teacher made me read* that there were people who tried to kill them, or mess us what they were doing.... I dont remember the names of the people, but it said that if some of the people did not mess wit them that they would have done so much more than they did....

Didn't the Romans also believe in gods? and Egyptians? and Greeks?

Yes they did, but they thought that they were a God, or they could go up to the heavens to talk to the God in person, and thats just not true.

Shylagirl, below is a quote from a passage of the Adam and Eve story, which is from the book of Genesis.

". . . the woman he punishes with pain in childbirth and with subordination to man"

Do you believe that an ""all-knowing and all-loving" entity could or would punish by condemning men and women to not be equal and to inflict pain unto others? The bible claims that God is an unselfish being and we are "created in his image", however, the statement above shows us that he is judgmental, highly greedy, and downright malevolent. Contradictions, such as this in the bible, abound. They are an excellent reason to not take the bible anymore seriously then you would any other fable.
