Is god willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both willing, and able?
then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him god?

...oookaaaaayy I said I agree with the saying but I think it's time for a new one because this one has been used a crap load already...

God isn't real.

No, the god portrayed in the bible and other fairy tales isn't real.... but I think there is some kind of greater force than humans, whether it be a god (probably not) or something else.

Like I said before in this thread, I think there is some kind of greater force than humans, it may be a god or something else.

But to say he prevents evil is I think false... and the evil that did happened can't be justified by saying "it was part of the divine plan" because killing millions of innocents in the holocaust, atomic bombings, 9/11 doesn't sound like the god portrayed in the bible.

You're almost right .... your right in saying that it can not be justified and that it is not part of the divine plan. and saying that this is not the God in the bible. This is man, God gave man free will. it hurts God every time someone dies. and does not want any of that.

Is god willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Since some have a theory that this is the seventh day (still) and God then still is relaxing, it might not be a priority.

Is he able, but not willing?
I myself have a theory that God is not &quotreventing" evil, as first of all, it should be human that does that (by choosing the right), but besides that, it would go against the laws of nature. If God shows will and power to, say, kill a murderer before that murderer kills someone else. First of all, it would mingling with out free will, second it most likely would be an unnatural death and people would find it strange.

How would people not react if the ice on the North Pole stopped melting all by itself, without nothing else changed?

It is quite possible that God has to do nothing in order for nature to take its course. It might be something learned from back in time, where mingling with humans often ended up bad.

But of course, as many might say: God is nothing but a fragment of our imagination and thus are neither benevolent nor omnipotent.
On the other hand, many can say that the faith in God makes the believer be able to do many thing, and in the power of people willing to good, God is both omnipotent and benevolent; in the believers we trust.
There might be a reason for things happening.

well then god's sort of a retard for giving free will? of course humans are going to war and fight each other... if he didn't want any of it why give us free will.

I'll be back to debate later I gtg somewhere sorry.

Depends on what testament you're reading. The old testament God is a big fan of conquering through war, rape, pillage, and genocide.

All adds up to me.

Then he is malevolent.

OK heres an interesting fact, man declaring war on one another was a curse brought upon man. Living on Earth is but a test. If there was no evil on Earth, then why would we strive for anything better? Such as a Heaven. Earth in its present form is supposed to have evil, and God may not like evil, but I believe that he chooses for it to happen to test peoples faith, to see how much they will push for salvation against evil. Some people never bother to think about things like this and just assume that its Gods job to protect us all the time from any evil and that its his job to make sure nothing bad happens to us, when a majority of the things that happen to us are because of our own foolishness, and the evil filled within others.

if god did not give us free will we would be little dolls in the palm of his hand .... he loved us so much that he would let us do what we want to .... would you want your mom and dad to make you stay in you house not alowed to do anything at all?? or would you want free will to be able to do what you want ?? .... its all the same thing

Then why does god give humans the ability to kill others.
If he is omnipotent, he should be able to give humans free will yet have not think of murder.
