Well in many songs, movies, games and everything you see great nationalism for America. I kinda think it's stupid to use amerifcanism if you intend to spread your thing trhoughout the whole world. For example bands/singers we all over the world listen to, have a few songs about america, and how great it is. Well, I don't think America is all that good, maybe its also part of my own nationalism, but I actually always prefer speaking english on stuff I intend International. If you say your country is good, Will you make friends with that?

Just was wondering how people thought about this (I also want to hear some from some americans)

Patriotism with the real meaning of the word is good, it's very important that every citizen loves his country, when you really love your country you respect the (correct) laws, so the country has less problems thanks to your own efforts and you have made your country a slightly better place.
Chauvinism is bad, when you hate the other countries means that you don't care about yours either.

Americans don't know what cmmunism is, so they played it up as some evil diabolical thing, and even today, Russia gets bad rep.

Don't think that we're all idiots, although the general population can be ignorant (putting it nicely) sometimes.

Not all of us think McCarthyism(I think I spelled that right) is the way to go.

Unfortunately, most of the smart people in America don't want to get involved in the government outside of voting because they realize the politcal hellhole for what it is (phew). So we get mostly motivated, ignorant people who hold office instead.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Im American, and have always been an American. America has made some seriously messed up decisions, but has never had a BIG consequence. I think this is why people like America, nothing too bad ever happens.
Hold on. I think you need to retract that statement. America... along with many other countries... has made some of the worst decisions mankind has ever seen, throwing a nuclear bomb at someone for real is just ONE example, and america is not particuarily well liked right now, even if that is slightly unfounded and due to a popular media fed opinion, its popular to bash america right now. But there are much crueler things happening in other countries RIGHT NOW, no judge not... an aww that jazz.

They have also made some of the best decisions, and hitting japan with a nuclear bomb wasn't a random act of cruelty, if I remember right japan started that war by attacking Pearl Harbor, 2,350 Americans died including civilians, The Japanese government wasn't thinking about protecting it's people when it did that...

But anyways America isn't what it once was when most of the patriotic songs were written, and sorry to say I think it's picking up speed going downhill as well...

"The Japanese government wasn't thinking about protecting it's people when it did that..."

Hold on... are you saying Hiroshima was a GOOD idea. Or that it was Japans fault for not telling its people. Do you not think this was a little stupid and heavy handed.

Many countries have made many good decisions but to say America has never made a bad enuf decision to have serious repurcusions AND that the world likes america is just a little naive, if not welcomely hopefull.

I never heard that term before, I find it quite funny and clever. Yes, there are a lot of patriots in this country, and that term would correctly describe their beleifs.

What were those exactly?

and hitting japan with a nuclear bomb wasn't a random act of cruelty, if I remember right japan started that war by attacking Pearl Harbor, 2,350 Americans died including civilians, The Japanese government wasn't thinking about protecting it's people when it did that...

Actually Pearl Harbor was Japan's way of trying to keep the United States out of the war. So yes, Japan was thinking about protecting it's people when it did that.
