C (children)- nothing bad E (everyone)- mild violence YT (young teen)- violence, mild blood, mild language OT (older teen)- intense violence, strong language, suggestive themes M (mature)- massive violence, massive language, sexual themes Ao (adults only)- anything under this Green Earth (and maybe beyond.....
I like this, but you left out the factor of a gore system which exists in some games like Fallout 3, as well as nudity which is in Mass Effect. Those would probably qualify as M rated still under the new system. All I can say is that I'm glad they at least implemented a new rating of E-10 eventually for some people since some games are really in-between Teens and 7 year olds. Now a system for 15 year olds and older also would seem fair as well since most of them are in High School by that time and for some probably already doing things that are only in M rated games anyways, so I think they could happen a little bit of violence and blood. Under that system Halo 3 would probably qualify.
As for the current system I am getting sick of games being more regulated then Music, Literature, and Movies combined because of ESRB trying to be peoples parents, but I'm about to turn 17 in a couple of months so I'm good on some things. Now if only Microsoft would let me download free M rated content without having to be 18 for some reason even though my parents don't care....I blame Fox news.
Crimson . . . really? Fox News? Fox News obviously knows jacksh** about video games.
I beat both of those games. I play Halo 3 online. I saw the sex scene in Mass effect. Those people are making tempests in teapots - it's not cull frontal nudity, it's not an interactive scene. Also, I never hear stuff like that on Halo 3. Fox HIRED PEOPLE TO SAY THAT STUFF. That's why it was recorded on camera.
Sorry crimson, but . . . you utterly failed there.
I think that whenever the child is smart enough to understand that video games =/= reality. Because then, any sort of persuasion towards violence stops.

wait wait wait!!!!! You actually thought that I believed that BS that Fail News feeds people? My argument was that they are brain washing parents, not that what they say is true. How could you come to that conclusion?

Oh, I thought you that you were arguing for heavy age restrictions. Lol.
There is nothing more annoying then a person cursing non-stop, and a little 11 year old would be ten times worse because they don't know when to stop. Believe me. Maybe 14 is good.
Honestly, I believe there shouldn't be an age limit. I do believe that anyone who is considered a legal adult in the eyes of the law should be able to buy any game on the market. But, I think anyone under the age should have parents consent, and plus, usually if you're around 11-14 you're always with your parents when you go to get games anyway. So they should be the final decision.
And in the end, my mother always bought me M games if I wanted them.
I think they just need a new rating entirely.... like have all the sexual content, violence, blood n gore, language, etc... in a column and then have a number between 0-5 next to it. 0 being none, 5 being alot. Underneath have an average and if its over 4, kids under 16 need a parent with them to buy it... Other than that parents can tell exactly how bad this game is, and in which areas
Children are impressionable of video games and their characters. If there is major violence in that game and they see that the character is cool when he/she does it, they will imitate it because they think they will be cool when they do it.
In other words, they need to morally know that that kind of stuff doesn't really happen in real life for them to be ready for that kind of game.
Now for the blood part? Children experience blood all the time in their lives, and when a game is bumped up to Teen because of "general blood", then ESRB isn't thinking correctly. Gore is Teen compatible, not mature compatible.
Sexual Themes and References? If kids experience it in middle school, they can experience it in a video game. Teen.
Use of alcohol/drugs? Teen. Impressionable.
Exaggerated Mayhem, excessive blood and gore, strong language, nudity, and old lady kicking? Adults only ;-)
