It has been proven that there was a huge flood that would of lasted around that time at that time. It didnt cover the whole world, but everywhere inhabited by man at the time, basically around the Mediterranean Sea.
For the other question, God knows everything and created the earth and probably decided how long it took to rotate on its axis. So he could of went "Hey, it took me this long to make the earth, that should be how long the day is!" or he could of know how long a day was going to be once the earth was created. Or since the bible was written after this happened they could of realized this or it could be a coincidence.
Also I would like to point out that one second to God is a billion years to us and one penny to God is a billion dollars to us. And if you ask Him for one of those pennies He'll say "sure, but it will take me a second" I find that to be quite a funny joke!
Just a fact of course. A day in God's mind could be a million years, a day in our minds is a day defined by our language
I thought it was defined by how long it took the Earth to make a full rotation... lol :P
Also, idk but I think it may have taken a bit longer than 6 million years to create the earth, animals, all of the environment, and intelligent humans...
obviously Pixie214 is right about Noah's Ark. point closed.
about god creating the earth in 6 days, what about the rest of the universe? the bible said he made the heavens in one day, wouldn't that be the rest of the universe?
It has been proven that there was a huge flood that would of lasted around that time at that time. It didnt cover the whole world, but everywhere inhabited by man at the time, basically around the Mediterranean Sea
It covered the inhabited areas around the Mediterranean area. Most of the population of the world was in Asia at the time, so that point is based on false facts.
Stop calling things stupid when they are of another opinion. Just to take on philosoraptor(who didn't exist btw, it was all Raptor Jesus). As falsoraptor point out, how long did he know a day was? He didn't, in terms of god creating things in a day, his day might have been equivalent to 10 billion years for us. And secondly as much as I don't agree with the bibles teachings it doesn't make it stupid. It's not perfect but nothing in this world is, you can say why you don't agree but calling it stupid is being stupid in itself, so shut up and just debate opinions without acting 12 and relying on stupid things like "the bible is stupid" instead of actual arguments.
The bible was suppose to be a book meant to be read by us humans why would god refer to a day in a way that only he could understand but not us?
For that matter if god is suppose to be omnipotent then why take as long as 6 days to make everything if god was truly omnipotent then he could very easily do it all at once.
As for the rested on the 7th day thing. Again we are suppose to be talking about an omnipotent being such a being would have no need for rest thus begging the question of why do it at all? I know if I didn't require rest I sure wouldn't bother.
The bible as a moral guide. We are talking about a book that condones slavery, human and animal sacrifice, has the all loving creator committing things like genocide and numerous other atrocities. Then among this sea of such things slips in here and there things like "thou shall not kill". I have gotten better moral guidance form a Saturday morning cartoon.
What I don't get is why the bible is the new testament + the old testament TOGETHER.
The Bible is a lot more then just two books together. Genesis, Numbers, John, etc. are all separate books.
Until recent genetic hypothesis, explain to me why people even figured incest was bad?
LightingBlade where do you get this from. There is plenty of examples of incest all throughout history that are regarded as being acceptable and even preferred behavior, most notably in royal families. Even in the Bible there are situations where incest was A OK.
Even for those who figured out it wasn't good, it doesn't take genetic testing to see that when Family member A had a kid with Family member B that kid usually ended up with some kind of problem.
I thought it was defined by how long it took the Earth to make a full rotation... lol :P
Well actually humans could of made it any length they wanted back then, they just decided that it should be every time the sun comes up.
And God decided how fast it rotates so, that ends this question because He could of said "It took me this long to make the earth, I should make that how long a day is!"
Anyway, this concept came from humans. Personally, I think that it was a story for the people to have an 'idea' of how the world was made. This was because they didn't have any knowledge about the world, the sun, etc.. That, my friends, is my opinion.
