there are alot of atheists and Christians and threads about these so i thought why not create a muslin thread and another reason why i created this thread is because i was wondering if there were other muslims on ag.
just like the other threads we can talk about anything muslim
I can't really see any positives to being Muslim, they oppress women, think it's ok to rape non-muslim women. Think it's ok to kill your wife or kids if they don't obey you, and they want to kill everyone that will not convert to thier religion. Where is all the love they talk about?? If you read the Quran, it's like they keep changing the rules just to suite themselves at any given time. It's just weird.
1 you can't kill at ALL. you have to learn to be patient. 2 the fact other muslims kill any one who does;t convert just puts a bad impression on muslims. those are exteramists. you arnen supposed to resort to war. if they don't convert dont force them. they will get punished my Allah (God in arabic)
Actually, Brian, Islam was quite progressive in terms of woman's rights in the beginning(just look at Muhammad's wife, she owned a business) , and literally means "Peace". It's just that theocracies, attempting to recover the glory days of their reign are stagnating if not moving backwards the wrong way in my opinion.
Why exactly is it so imperative to the Shia Muslims that only descendants of Muhammad are made caliph? Eventually, it'll become almost impossible to find his descendants, and if the Shiite way is followed, there will be no caliph and therefore much less organization, which is detrimental to the religion. So . . . why?

The schism between the two was a debate over Caliphs. Islams strong boost in the late 600's eventually lead to a conquest of most of the Middle East. Right before the beginnings of large empires like the Abbasid. Shia Muslims pulled for Ali, a cousin and son in law to Muhammad [Closest relative possible, seeing as all of Muhammad's male children died in infancy]
Problem is, is that Sunni's regard that Muhammad would not appoint the caliphate to a dynasty, even though the Shia's wanted that. So, by the fact that Abu Bakr [companion of the prophet] was his close friend, etc, he succeeded Muhammad. Two more caliphs later [Umar and Uthman] and the Shias are realllly pissed. Finally, for a short last reign, Ali was finally elected/accepted into the caliphate, but for a short time.
Shias having bad political history in their support for Ali have caused them to be more blood-line conservative and have pushed them to a more 'Must be related to the prophet' kind of view. So, for these reasons, they feel it is imperative as to pay homeage to Ali or something. I don't think its a very smart view, it fragments Islam into political concepts instead of religious ones.
Anyway, Islam gets its bad name from its bad governments. Just yesterday I heard that Saudi Arabia put a man on trial for sorcery. They're conservative morons, taking bricks and stones from wahabi [Islamic conservative] movements that lead to the downfall of Islamic Empires in the 19th century.
im not 100% sure but it is possible that shiia muslims are more strict
They're Islam is more strict, to a point I'd rather not go to. Sadly, terrorism can come from both sects. Islamic regions of the world are currently pretty crappy, and from all of that crap comes detrimental thinking that leads to forms of extremism. :\\
Well I will ask the same question as the other thread...Why do Muslim's dislike pictures of there deity and profits? I had found no verse against its specifically...
well noone knows what god looks like or thats what we belive so if we think he looks like something we are wrong.
what we imagine and see is what we have seen or are seeing. god is some thing that we havent seen god so we cant relate any picture or vision to god
Then why does the whole Muslim world get into a fuss every time someone draws a picture, usually of Muhammad? Just look at the "draw Muhammad day" a little while ago...
