Wow, i am blown away by this movie. I saw it yesterday (12/19) in 3D. It is jaw dropping. I cannot believe how amazing the CGI looks and how good the 3D is. After a while it just seems like the 3D just "should be" there. This movie made 27million the first day, it seems it may break some records. I think it is going to take a lot of academy awards.
and at the end battle, the military would've soooooooo woooonnnnnnn. steel>flesh
In all fairness, these fleshy things weren't what you would find on Earth (many of them had carbon fiber bones), but the RDA were winning fairly handily until Ewya sent the creatures of Pandora attacking. Not to mention that Jake Sulley used 'steel' against them (machine gun, grenades, and a missile.)
All my friends have seen it. I have heard some good stuff about it. Done some research on the movie, and here is my review:
The whole movie is based around the CGI, no good plot or anything, basically, the James Cameron said one day: "Hey, I wanna show off my CGI!" Also, none of it is raw acting, 90% is shot in front of a Green Screen. And the CGI doesn't even look that great either. Also, James Cameron is EXTREMELY overestimated.
Exactly! It was a visually stunning movie, and I loved it for that. But the plot line was very dry and unoriginal. You knew what every plot twist would be before it actually happened.
But as far as the graphics went, there is nothing quite like it out there. The technology is amazing. And it is so worth it to watch just to see how gorgeous it all is.
Avatar is exactly the same as Pocahontas. Pocahontas was a good movie, and it was less predictable than Avatar (despite the plots being the exact same).

What? The plot was beautiful and shed light on the nature of imperialism.
The conflict was perhaps simple; the humans want to take their land for its resources while the indigenous population resists. Though it was filled with much more than this. The adaptation of John in the new culture, the complex culture of the people, the taming of various animals, etc. It was all very interesting to watch.
Plus, "original" movies today are nothing more than taking the concept of love and adding vampires and werewolves to them...
I was actually planning on seeing it tomorrow with my friends, but I have heard some bad things about it. I dont know what to do. I thinking about going just to be with some friends.
A lot of people said that the plot was the same as Pocahontas, although Pocahontas never criticized war (specifically the Iraq War/War on Terror), dealt with environmentalism, or imperialism. Also, Avatar was first written in 1994,a full year before Pocahontas was released.
