Yawn, time to suggest one of my fanatical ideas...

Well, as you all know, we currently have, uhm... 12 different forums. All of them have a very good topic that allows many things to go inside (Except the Sonny 2 forum, which is special). But time to time I have wondered:

We don't have a Science Forum.

Why? I don't know. I don't think I've ever seen anyone suggest this before, for some reason. I know many people would down this suggestion with 'there are going to be no more forums' and 'there aren't enough people interested in that' (Which I frankly both disagree with), but think about it:

Many items of valuable interest (Astronomy, biology, geology, seismology etc...) are not discussed much. Why? Let me tell you why. They end up either in:

A. The Tavern

Or

B. World Events, Politics, Religion, Etc.

No offense to the many Tavern users, but it's kind of the place that doesn't belong goes to (That's sort of what it's for). Many topics are random and clearly have nothing in common with one another. Science on the other hand, is not random, and a very large, debatable forum theme.

World Events (A few Science things can land here) is to me the closest thing the Forum has to offer to a Science Forum. Many Science related threads are in there (Earthquake in Haiti is a good example) that could have an even lengthier and more depth discussion in a Science Forum (Why did the earthquake happen? How are these recorded? Can anything be done?). World Events talks about when things happen or what might happen, and many times it is a smooth discussion. A Science Forum would be a great place to debate things, take sides on conflicting theories and so forth.

Therefore, in a nutshell, I say:

Why is there no Science Forum?

Are you suggesting that the Science Forum would be successful?

I'm suggesting I'd definitely post there if we had email notifications.

I really dont see how that would make it any more or less successful.

Me neither. Email notifications or not, I personally don't feel it matters much.

Anyone who wants to. And I have the feeling a lot of good users will.

If we didn't start a science forum it would pretty much be a slaughter forum. Going on a limb I'd say most of the armorgames users are less than 14 years olds. This directly correlates to the amount of education they have and their ability to carry out a scientific conservation. Sooner or later and older memory that believes they are smarter then everyone will begin posting and abusing the forum. Soon their will be huge divide in understanding and ability to understand. Since some people will post ridiculous topics and other overwhelming complex topics.

wouldn't that help catch the under-age people though? but most of them are smart enough so most might actually not comment on it... i really don't think we need a science forum though, spam would rise up to twice the amount because of new forum ideas. as FloydTC said, most people try to escape intelligence here!

And if they do, they might surprise people with what they learn in school!
And to be honest... it doesn't mean that when you get older, you instantly gain a lot of wisdom... I've seen some people remain ignorant or undereducated whilst still being of older age... that's always a shame, but should never be the reason for them not to post in a forum!

To argument on that... it would simply mean that there's a separate forum for these science topics, nothing more. If people want to spam, they will do it where ever they feel like! Whether that's in the flash game forum, in the tavern or (in this case) in the science forum, wouldn't make any difference to them if you ask me...

But not everyone. Not everyone... EX: Mods, admins, me, good users etc...

DayCee is right: People will spam regardless of whatever forum it is. Not because of what's in the forum or what topic it is, just because they can spam.

OMG: 1,000 forum post! Yes...

If there's a thread you frequently visit and post in when you joined the discussion there, why not make a link in your profile's 'about'?
I do that with threads I frequently visit to get there quicker without having to direct myself through the AG website... just a thought Tharos!

Suppose there are dozens of such threads? And even if I do have links, I'd have to check the forum to even know if there have been replies.

Just put as many links on your profile as you have threads that you wish to post in frequently. Don't add them all at once, because that may be slightly overwhelming.

So...how is this different from other forums again? Last I checked, this was going to be the exact same as all the others. You know, extra forum, most-recently-replied-to thread, most-recent threads are shown at the top? So. How would this be ANY different compared to the WEPR, the Tavern, or the AMW?

And does this stop younger and more ignorant teens from posting in the WEPR forum? It will be just as exact as what would occur in this forum: Someone posts a thread about a specific topic. We find out that he's just posting random BS. Someone will correct him with actual facts and verifies it with links and such. We will continue the conversation from here; some will be debates about science, others will be just discussion of these topics.

Guess it all depends on how many threads you post in at the time then... :S
Still... the amount of stuff you can put in your profile's about is not maximized, so a list of links can become quite long, as long as you want it to be!

So. How would this be ANY different compared to the WEPR, the Tavern, or the AMW?

The only difference would be that this would be a forum strictly related to science topics, making it easier for users that want to discuss them to find them, instead of having to post them in another forum...
Kinda like the same with the suggestion for a sports forum!

We will continue the conversation from here; some will be debates about science, others will be just discussion of these topics.

Exactly... a forum where users can discuss, debate and 'yap-yap' about science topics and other related issues... reasoning to get one is to have a specific place for users to do that, that's all... =)

Sorry, I've not been clear. I only ever post in the Support and Suggestions forum because it's easier to keep track of where I've posted if it's all in one forum. Also, I'd be talking about more important and interesting things in the science forum so I'd want to be able to keep track of my posts even more. Right now I mostly post on other websites because they have email notifications so I know exactly what threads have been replied to and when.

He means that those three forums he listed involve intellectual conversation inside (most of them), so how would this 'science forum' be any different? This would have intelligent discussion, but he's basically debunking the other three as well.

Do you really mean this Freakenstein? I mean... the Tavern has more 'random' conversations in it than intellectual if you ask me...

For example, the top 5 threads (stickies not included) in it are now:
-3...2...1...0
-Armor games tournament: Black Magma Flames
-Stupid Pick-up Lines
-If you have a question about girls...
-All things airsoft
-Im pretty much screwed..

Looks pretty 'random' to me... :S

The science forum is more likely to get higher levels of topics if you ask me... basically since the forum name is already suggesting it.
Or are you talking about threads being made about 'why do I fall down instead of up when I fall down? o_O

Right now I mostly post on other websites because they have email notifications so I know exactly what threads have been replied to and when.

Maybe it's time to make (yet) another thread about wanting to have email notifications here on AG then...
