Yawn, time to suggest one of my fanatical ideas...

Well, as you all know, we currently have, uhm... 12 different forums. All of them have a very good topic that allows many things to go inside (Except the Sonny 2 forum, which is special). But time to time I have wondered:

We don't have a Science Forum.

Why? I don't know. I don't think I've ever seen anyone suggest this before, for some reason. I know many people would down this suggestion with 'there are going to be no more forums' and 'there aren't enough people interested in that' (Which I frankly both disagree with), but think about it:

Many items of valuable interest (Astronomy, biology, geology, seismology etc...) are not discussed much. Why? Let me tell you why. They end up either in:

A. The Tavern

Or

B. World Events, Politics, Religion, Etc.

No offense to the many Tavern users, but it's kind of the place that doesn't belong goes to (That's sort of what it's for). Many topics are random and clearly have nothing in common with one another. Science on the other hand, is not random, and a very large, debatable forum theme.

World Events (A few Science things can land here) is to me the closest thing the Forum has to offer to a Science Forum. Many Science related threads are in there (Earthquake in Haiti is a good example) that could have an even lengthier and more depth discussion in a Science Forum (Why did the earthquake happen? How are these recorded? Can anything be done?). World Events talks about when things happen or what might happen, and many times it is a smooth discussion. A Science Forum would be a great place to debate things, take sides on conflicting theories and so forth.

Therefore, in a nutshell, I say:

Why is there no Science Forum?

That etc means the listed topics. The reason, I believe, is because of lack of traffic. It already does not have as much activity as the other forums.

Another thing I noticed, is that there barely are any science threads there, which is quite a shame since technically that is the place for science threads. And History too.

I would say that a large portion of it is science. The other, religion.

Yes, though ethical and political threads do take up a very large chunk too. I tend to see more of those then science threads.

If you want to talk about science, the Tavern or World events work.

Yeah, that fits. Looks like this thread, has finally been properly killed.

Lol, I see this got brought up again, and it's my thread, so...

History / Science / Philosophy

Oh, that's a god way to put it... But the mods have their good ideas too.
How would this forum be different from the World Events, Politics, Religion, etc?

I believe because this forum would be based solely on the power of the mind, on hardcore facts that can only be argued when there are multiple theories and ways to interpret them.

The WPR has threads on religion, which is not based on facts. As you already see now, people argue there about their viewpoints of religion, be it that they come from a different religion, different parts of a religion or brought up differently.

Ex:

Question: Did God create everything?

User 1(Christian): Yes, it's what the Bible says.
User 2(Polytheistic): NO WAY! My religion is polytheistic, and according to it, the universe was once an egg that cracked.
User 3(No religion): You're both wrong: The universe has always been there. The things they tell you in Church are false.
User 1: The Bible is right. You're wrong.
User 2: No, you're both wrong!

... Zzzzzz

Question: Scientists believe the universe was created by the Big Bang. Is there evidence that proves/proves it's false?

User 1: There are many pieces of evidence that the Big Bang actually happened. Examples are...

User 2: That's try, but you must not forget the other theories as well. An example is the Plasma theory, which is based on the same facts as the Big Bang theory, but interpreted differently. Examples are...

(The debating begins...)
Yeah, that fits. Looks like this thread, has finally been properly killed.

No, I feel not.

The Tavern is a place where random topics and junk goes. Though yes, you can essentially put Science threads on there, it is dumb to mingle hard-debating threads with day-to-day talk.

OK, the WPR... I've gone through that somewhere...

OK, seeing as people are beginning to bulldozer my idea into oblivion, I believe to have found another solution that will satisfy both parties:

The WPR gets 'Science' written into the title. So it becomes WPRS. That way, people know that Science topics may go there. Sound better? Not a new forum, a revision of an old one.

If this idea goes green light, I'll attempt to contact an admin.

I accidentally lost my old post. Anyway, people should recognize that the WEPR is the place for science, history and philosophy. I dunno, add sub-forums, make more threads, change the title? The et cetera in the WEPR's title should say that history, philosophy and science go there too. Renaming it should surely make it obvious.

I do understand why you'd like a sub-forum. Though..

I'm having a headache. Anyway, this should be alleviated in AG 3.0. I wish people talked about ancient history more.

That's not exactly news... Recently...

Yes. I think I'll go ask Carlie when the time is right. She can ask Dan and his friends to change the name slightly. Hope it isn't a big problem...

I know. Though it's history and that forum is for history.

It might be. Though it probably isn't. If the title can't be changed, then nothing else can be done until AG 3.0, well except for making threads.

i think a science forum isnt to much to ask for it would sort of clear out the clutter in the tavern and world events section

Yes AG needs a Science Sub Forum for those who want to chat about science , ask questions about science related stuff , etc.

I honestly disagree with everyone saying there wouldn't be enough people talking there. I'm sure it would be a decent sized group of regulars, with inputs from people who are interested in the current subject. I know I for one would be a regular in the science forum.

Read the most current idea please:

Changing the WPR forum to WPRS forum, where S is science
I'm sure it would be a decent sized group of regulars, with inputs from people who are interested in the current subject.

I've counted 5 or a few more users who like this. Though I'm honored, it is not enough, especially when a few of those users leave over time.
