My brother got accepted by K-state originally as a fall-back. Indiana university costs too much out of state and Duke was a hassle, so i'm unsure about whether he's going to Duke or K-State.
I'm in 11th and my colleges are planned out. I am getting multiple amounts of letter from colleges that i'm not interested in, it's quite annoying. I've talked to a couple college counselors and I am a sure in for the colleges I want.
It mainly depends on your SAT, ACT, GPA, and extra curricular activities.
Actually now they only look at the ACT and GPA. The SAT is only for one scholarship now. The only extra curricular activities that matter are ones that exemplify community service. (Beta club, archor club, etc.)
It is crazy expensive to get accepted. I am still wondering whether or not to go to college. I probably will....
Not really, if your scores are high enough you will be fine. You need to go to college, if you don't your probability of being in debt is huge, and getting a job is unlikely.
Parsat, I've always been curious as to how the application system works in the US. Do your offers depend on your final exams or on your overal GPA?
In the U.S. your GPA and ACT are looked at. The final exams can be taken from 9th-12th grade and determine whether you are able to graduate. (based on overall scores of the state the previous year)

Oh it is expensive, though unfortunatley you have to have it today. The sad thing is many people graduate and never go into the field their degree is in, shows you the real importance of it all but the piece of paper is what matters, not what's written on it.
I've been able to pay for most of mine so far, got some out of the way in high school so that helped, AP and duel credit can be your friend though I only took a few. If money's that tight you could join the military and get them to pay for it, though if you do join the Reserves or National Guard, less BS if you know what I mean.
And here's a tip about college, get the BS general education classes out of the way quickly, their the worst ones and you will most likely change your major a few times. Choose your minor carefully as well and don't rule out a community college or something like that for the general ed. classes, you don't want to waste too much money on it.
Also, unless you want to go to some highly prestigious school, don't worry too much about getting accepted, I applied in June and took the residual ACT in July, got a 22 overall and got accepted so that's the easy part, payment times the hard bit.
Well I haven't been accepted to anywhere yet because I am not a senior yet but I will probaly go to Virginia Tech because of my good grades.Northwestern is trying to get my sister.

Depends on what college you apply to. Some schools don't use the ACT. also, if you're good at a certain sport, they also might want you for their team, making your chance of being accepted much higher. They also look at your ethnicity, due to the fact that all colleges try to have diversity.
