I say that when a mod locks a topic, they should HAVE to put a reason why they did so that we know what we did wrong.
If someone makes an inappropriate thread, then they should be able to know what they did wrong so they don't do it again.
I know some mods just put it on your profile, but if you post it, all the people who read the locked thread will know what you did wrong, and hopefully, not do it themselves.
Well, you can except for those "last posted" threads.
I've noticed mods using [ans] now, since I posted my comment on page 3. This is very helpful and does appear on "last posted" threads.
Messages are only needed when the reason isn't obvious.
The regular anti-spamming users/posters on the forums don't need explanations for threads being locked unless... Do locked threads show up on the Forum Search engine? This is what I'm getting at, let's say I want to discuss current politics but I search for a similar open thread first. Do you know if locked threads will be displayed for my preview so I don't repeat past mistakes? Perhaps this is what SwordAndShield's OP was referring to?
Sometimes other users leave reasons as to why it was locked, before it got locked. I think I've done that say twice, where you explain what they did wrong and save the mod the hassle.
Look at the other posts for a reason if you can't find one.
I think we should all understand the moderators and trust them when it comes to locking. A peek at the thread should almost always answer why the thread was locked. Messages are only needed when the reason isn't obvious.
I think so too.
If you see a thread and you don't know why it's locked, ask a moderator. If the moderator doesn't reply within a day or so, ask another mod. If the other mod doesn't reply, then move on with your life. I check my profile every afternoon, so leaving me a message should result in a reply.
How do the mods delete nothing/alter the thread's count? Lol, it's also said that that was just nothing but a glitch, same as how forums have no threads and appear being 30 years old.
