"I pledge of allegiance to the flag of the united states of America, and to the FREAKING REPUBLIC for which it stands..."

Why do so many people call America a democracy? It is made as a republic, even stated in our pledge, yet some people, including past presidents, call it a democracy. Many presidents even sought out to "spread democracy and stop communism". Isn't that hippocratic, considering we are a republic?

On a side note: Why do so many people hate communism? It is good in theory, though its execution is usually flawed. America even went to war with Vietnam for, among other reasons, the "Domino effect" in an attempt to stop the spread of communism. Once more, hipocratic..

1. If you're going to point out the flaw in calling America a democracy, you might as well point out the actual flaw in execution rather than the wording of a pledge.

If you're going to make the claim that America isn't a democracy, you should mention bureaucrats and how they, the law makers, have a secure place in their positions and can not be voted out of power.

2. Why do people dislike communism? For the same reason people hate socialism and capitalism. We all want to live under the best system, and we can't agree on what the best system actually is. As simple as that.

America is a democratic republic, so people can call it a republic or democracy to be shorter when saying things.

America is considered a democracy because of what democracy is based on -- voting, the method in which many people come to decide something, while the majority vote gives way.

We are more specifically called a...crud, what's the word...We elect people to have THEM decide what to do. Gosh darng tarnation jebus.

Probably should have mentioned that, thought the quote proves that we are a republic.

Democracy is based on the rule of the people. A true democracy is more of a mob rule, the majority controls everything directly.

And my sarcasm detector is broken, so it is called a FREAKING REPUBLIC!

How does majority rule even come anything near "mob rule"?

And who cares what its officially defined as? The German Democratic Republic wasn't really much Democratic nor a Republic. The US government is more of a plutocracy for me.

so it is called a FREAKING REPUBLIC!

"A republic is a type of government where the citizens choose the leaders of their country and the people (or at least a part of its people) have an impact on its government."

So yes, we are a Republic that uses Democracy. The executive party leads the government and he is currently independent of legislature

Were a democratic republic. So where actually both. While people do vote, we vote people into power to make choices for us.

People hate communisum, beacus they think what we have is better, and that there system of goverment is wrong. So really...thats about it.

They hate it because it is a flawed theory. It will never fail at execution until it is actually tried, which will not happen until humans are no longer greedy(which is btw the fundamental flaw with communism).

Right of course, the massive amount of propaganda had nothing to do with maybe why people have such disillusion with communism. Everyone actually fully knows what communism is and they took the time to reason it out logically.

Then of course there's the Red Scare that made people think negatively of Communism....

Then there was the McCarthy guy... *shivers*

Communism is flawed, both in theory and execution. The reason it's flawed is because the system is built to mold the people to the system, rather than the system to the people. If a system requires people to severely change to accommodate, than it will not work.
