I'm ranked 86th our of my class so not very high, but chances are I'm getting 4.5 this semester...I love weighted classes
My councelor didn't let me take APs as a freshman or sophomore. *Shakes fist* And don't worry about rankings until the last semester of Junior year. It takes a while to cull the herd.
So... history huh? Always fun. Not useful on its own, but combined with political science, jounalism, or business it can be pretty powerful. It's definitly on my list.
I have a different view of this than most here it seems, as I am already in college and almost done with my third semester. I am going to Devry aiming for a bachelors in Game and Simulation Programming. But I remember those highschool days well, and honestly I hated it and my grades suffered (even though I got a 32 on my ACTs....). Luckily I managed to raise my GPA enough to get a partial scholarship at Devry where I hope to finish in about a year and a half.

Well I was planning on way into the future being a history teacher so you know...Lol we're not allowed to take AP courses till we're juniors, but it's great 'cause we recently received a grant that pays for our testing fees and awards us with a hundred dollars for every test we pass with a 3 or above.
I actually plan on going to community college first, in order to cut down on the number of years I have to pay for a university.
I don't understand this American system. Here in Australia our GPA equivalent comes in the form of a weighted score and rank, which (in theory) allows stratification into university courses (if that's where you intend to go). Of course there's a lot of upcoming changes and talk of a nationally standardised assessment scheme which is a heck of a lot easier to do in a country of 21 million as opposed to 500 million, and I'm not about to say the system is anywhere near perfect either.
Also apart from scholarships there seems to be no government-assisted way to levy your tuition fees, whereas Australia has a "Higher Education Commonwealth Supported" scheme going which makes tertiary education almost affordable for locals lol.
Actually here we have Government grants, that is if your family makes less then I think it's 75,000 a year, your a given a 10,000 grant to pay for your tuition.
Weighted means AP classes count as 5.0. I took 8 of those, and 15 "normal" classes. It might actually be a 4.3 by now, but I haven't got grades back. It's just how my school decided to rank people, because unweighted would result in like a 5 way tie for valedictorian. We ended up having two valedictorians with 4.5 GPAs, but neither of them has a 4.0 unweighted.
its impossible to get a 5.0 weighted because you can't take AP gym. the highest possible is 4.8 weighted.
I had a 3.6 unweighted. still ivy baby.
You could always try the ACT, some people tend to do better on it. Thing is, some colleges want all of your test scores. So even if you get a 2300 next time, they will still see your 1400. But if you get a good ACT score first try, you can just pretend like the SAT never happened.
uh they take the best scores from the individual SAT subjects and form a composite.
like if you get 800 760 500 on the first time. and 500 800 800, then your composite score is 2400.
So what I see is MIT
screw you MIT for wl me.

lul, that sucks. I have 10 APs. whuuut whuut

wow I would have made 1000 dollars.

horses dont goto college silly
but yea. you dont need an amazing GPA and freshman year counts a lot. cause colleges look at that. anyone who tells you otherwise is BSing and you should stop being their friend. If your GPA isnt the top, it helps to pull it up with Standardized testing, and extracurriculars where you demonstrate leadership, and sports in general.
If anyone is applying to harvard or something, they look for consistency. Like this girl who used to goto panera bread co at night and take all their bagles, and shed sell them in the our cafeteria in the morning, and she donated all proceeds to charity. stuff like that.
8th grade doesnt really matter. 9th grade does though.
Seeing as I never paid a tuition fee for school or uni, it's like a world beyond me 8D
I'm just glad that my uni academic transcript doesn't count for anything once my internship starts. It's like this horrible black mark on my record x_x The funny part is that the hospitals in my state take the aggregate score of semesters 2-5 and 8-9, which, incidentally, are my worst semesters lol.

They most certainly do not. From collegeboard.com:
Students are only able to select which scores they send by test date for the SAT and by individual test for SAT Subject Tests. Scores from an entire SAT test are sent. Students can choose, by test date (test sitting), which scores appear on the score report sent to colleges, universities or scholarship programs.
But that isn't true for all colleges. Some still require that you send in all test scores. It's probably something people should figure out before they go take the test. The first time I took the test, I got a 1900. Some collges accepted my 2200 alone, and others required that I send in the 1900 as well.
lul, that sucks. I have 10 APs. whuuut whuut
I only have 8... (but 9 tests, because econ counts as two.) So I would have made 900 dollars. I really wish I had been able to take ap bio, psych and euro as a sohpomore, because those classes were extremely easy. Then I could have taken Stat, Physics and Gov as a senior.
its impossible to get a 5.0 weighted because you can't take AP gym
Really my high school offers Adv. Gym (full year - no health; family life etc.) Which is worth five points with an A, so if you have all adv. or AP courses you can get a 5.0 plus depending on the school district gym isn't required after a certain point. For us it k-10 after that gym is optional.

Like totally not cool. I know nothing about this scheme and am just guessing from its name, but if any British money is subsidising Aussie education I will shoot myself. Actually, I'll write to the Daily Mail first, who'll have a field day, and then shoot myself.

's not AP gym as there is no national test. therefore not every program has it, just because you can get a 5.0 doesnt mean other people can physically do it. so you have to set the bar at 4.8.
