This is a bit of a forum game, but at the same time it has the capacity to result in a bit of poetry, so it goes here. I'm going to supply a line of poetry, and the following poster is to create a poem using the line I gave as their first. Along with their poem, they supply a line for the next person to write poetry on. No restrictions on the type of line or poetry; just keep the line open ended.

Here's the first line:

A mountain pokes out awkward in the mist

[I based this one off of the accounts of survivors of the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima]

The strangest thing just happened,
The sky above was burned,
The ground below was blackened,
I had stood alone, concerned.

Ashes had filled up the sky,
Burnt bits of carbon flew past,
Charred remains of those who died,
Of those who could not outlast.

I saw through all the slaughter,
Their bomb worked as intended,
Blood was flowing like water,
Their lives abruptly ended.

Today I went for a stroll

today i went for a stroll
which strated with a crawl
and ended with a fall

i lived down in the valley
where the old coyotes howl
an they'd come down from the mountain
when the dogs began to growl

an they meet up in the foot hills
where they fight until the death
when the morning sun is rising
i will bury all they left

then it starts back agin

Then it starts back again,
Being hunted for my flaws,
I must retreat to my den,
Not my fault I break the laws!

The sheriff tracks me down,
His gun already drawn,
His badge is like a crown,
He darts across my lawn.

Out the back window,
I make my escape,
To the ground below,
Perfectly shipshape.

He begins firing,
Trips on his shoelace,
I keep on running,
He cannot keep pace.

I dart through the valley,
He will not ever win,
There is no finale,
Then it starts back again.

I screwed in a light bulb

I screwed in a lightbulb,
so that darkness might leave
from my home, my domain,
and light shower o'er me.

The house once in blackness,
filled up with wicked objects;
shameful possessions, now
cleansed by the whiteness of light

I screwed in a lightbulb,
now I can see, has lit more
than this house, but my life,
my soul, now pure again.

All the world is but a stage,
So go out there and break a leg,
Everyone has their golden age,
Do not waste your time, I beg.

Continue to impress the crowd,
Even when they seem so vile,
Keep them all happy and wowed,
Find new ways to make them smile.

When your day is finally done,
Before the curtain lowers,
Take your bow, for you have won,
You're better than the showgoers.

I decided to go to bed

I decided to go to bed,
To lay down my head,
And dream of happier times.

I decided to go to bed,
To not wake up dead,
And take peaches for limes.

I decided to sleep in mute,
Ascending the butte,
Peeked into the plains,
And saw gently cascading rains.

It is an honest truth,
That took many years to see,
The world is in our dreams,
Not for us to breathe,
And that's why I sleep.

I sleep for happiness,
I sleep for bliss,
And sometimes, once upon the stars,
I sleep for rest.

These lies I've been told,

[I based this one on the intro to the game Bulletstorm]

These lies I've been told,
Have caused me great pain,
Problems that unfold,
Etched within my brain.

Those people I killed,
Them I can't forget,
In my mind they're drilled,
I'm filled with regret.

I will get even,
I will show my might,
Now it will begin,
Time to bring the fight.

nvm. That's way too cheap. The next line is:
I stand atop the mountain

I stand atop the mountain
Of another conquered goal.
Like a youth reclaiming fountain,
Sweet success renews my soul.

Yet the all consuming yearning
Never seems to leave my mind.
Thirst for life continues burning;
Thoughts for rest are left behind.

While my heart directs my thinking,
And the thrills are worth the risk,
I will keep on seeking, drinking,
Waters age will find too brisk.

I wandered off into the night.

I wandered off into the night,
With nary a glance backwards.
Joy in my eyes,
Tears in my heart.

Twas a lonely night,
When all was silent.
The wheel spun,
And a man died.

A spirit wanders the darkness
Seeking shelter in the light.

A beckoning hand;
A soothing stare;
So very grand,
And yet so rare.

A basic glance;
A simple wave;
A quick instance
I hope to save.

There's nothing so calming as this,
To fill anyone with pure bliss.

I sail the sea

I sail the sea,
Seeking booty and plunder,
A scurvy pirate, that I be,
Here to tear yer ship asunder.

The black flag be mine,
The one with a skull and bones,
It better send chills through your spine,
For yer about to visit Davy Jones.

But there be room in me heart for more,
Than to murder and steal 'til I go numb,
It be to lie on me back on me cabin's floor,
With a tight grip 'round me precious rum.

i can see it now
the sun rises and goes back down
by the third we say to sail the ship
and plunder the next town

we set fire to the houses
and steal oh so much loot
but there's barely anything even here
lets give this place the boot.

next line: we jump back in our sailing ship

Because it has been six days, I am going to do a different poem. Also because I don't like the first line I've been given (sorry, StormWalker) :b

I can see it now
The glow of the sun,
nearly touching the sky.

It's almost like hope,
almost like warmth,
almost like
something
more.

More than anything, before
I saw the sky break
And light spilled,
blinding, cutting across the land.
In the next moment,
There is always
something
more.

I was so excited about writing a poem that I forgot to give a next line.

Here it is. :b
