What do you think about this? I feel that it should not be built at ground zero because I find that extremely disrespectful to the families and victims of that infamous day.
That was in a time of war. This happened in a time a peace. Say i blew up your house. Then, i put a big monument saying 'HaHa!' on it. Would you like that?
no i wouldn't. and i agree that 9/11 was a catastrophy. i'm not even american and i was completely devastated when it happened. however, why is it we're not disgusted that we travelled to the holy lands and slaughtered thousands of people for no reason??
Don't generalize like that Rug. I never said anything about all Muslims being terrorists and nor did a vast majority of the posters in this thread. We are merely arguing that building a Mosque so close to Ground Zero and opening it a decade from a major terrorist incident carried about by extremists/fundamentalists is really quite inappropriate.
Sooooo, if they were radical Christians, would we be having this discussion? It may be inappropriate for some, but sooner or later you guys need to forget about 9/11, recognize that not all Muslims are idiots and just let them integrate fully into your society.
-sigh- I would have acted the same had it been radical Anybody. Sadly, radical Christians don't get as much media attention because they tend to hang about in places like Hell (read: Texas) and blow up Abortion clinics. Anyway, I hardly see how not letting them build one Mosque in one place is stopping them from integrating - there are plenty of other, better/larger places to build a Mosque.

The muslim faith did not perpetrate 911. A single terrorist cell did. A better idea would be to build the mosque ON ground zero, to show the people of the muslim world that america is NOT their enemy.
Thank you for your valuable addition to this thread.

This would be a good idea in theory, but I think that the general American public is not open minded enough for such action. But it's true that the terrorists are extremists who do not embody the actual feelings of the millions of regular Muslims. One group does not speak for all.
Don't generalise the muslims by what the terrorists did. If Israel had done that, Gaza strip and southern Lebanon would have been in a much worse situation.

Thats the thing. Americans are far too sensitive about attacks on their home soil. They should dedicate an entire floor of the freedom tower to new york muslims to show solidarity. Their reaction to a mosque being built far away on the top floor of a different building shows that the terrorists have won. Simple as that. As soon as you start stopping mosques being built you become more like the enemy you despise.
