Now, this thread is intended to be serious, about the 'Mayan calendar' Which ends in 2012. I myself am very open to all possibilities to this life, to how we began, how we proceed and how we end.
The Mayan calendar tho, it is too much of a Gospel to be taken seriously that these Mayan's knew when time would indeed end for the world, and so they decided to stop doing the calender.
There are SO many more explanations for the date ending when it did, an yet the first thing us as depressed human beings do....we immediately think "ahhh yes, this must be when we all burn up in the sun".
So my question is this:
Do you believe that during 2012 the worlds population will decrease dramatically, and the rise of suicide will increase to an all new high?
Theory: Back in the 1930's, in New York a radio station played a story of 'War of The Worlds' it was read so good, and with such realism, people took the story to be a real news report, which resulted in thousands of people jumping off roofs, killing themselves, and ultimately saving themselves from unknown torture and destruction.
Taking that in to context, that was JUST new york, Put the world in the spotlight now, and people still have not become any wiser to facts and mythology, The world will become chaotic, certainly as the 'End Of The World' comes closer more and more people will take their lives and their families lives to save them from the uncertain fate....my belief is we will still be here in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2025, 2050, 2080....by then i would of died of old age, but the world will live on for an unknown amount of time
Note: For those who have not heard of the 1930's radio broadcast, here is a summary of it, [url=http://history1900s.about.com/od/1930s/a/warofworlds.htm]
No it is not. It just ends. They did not, in any way shape or form, hint to the world ending when the calender 'ends'.
Aye fella, but us humans who see something which has an end to it, put two and two together and make five.
Their calender finished at the set date, so one person starts a world wide panic.
come on, the least the Mayan's Could do is turn round and at least say "We were to bloody lazy to finish the calender"
Then the world would stop with this nonsense, I just enjoy watching people panic over it, the fact so many people are living in 2012 and when the world is going to end, more and more people are becoming depressed as less and less people start living for now, and what is going on now, and take the future as it comes.
Coincidence, that the Mayan Calenders hype got bigger around the same time as the World Wide Recession?
The world is not gonna end in 2012,you ****s!Ok no one knows when the world is gonna end.Its is unknown!
Wow, so much for a serious topic containing a moderate level of maturity.
This thread is not about the world ending, it's a subject coming off of it tho, asking about your thoughts on the suicide rate of people who believe that the world will end, so they will take their on and others lives, because they don't want people suffering an unknown cruel fate.
If you have ever seen 'The Fourth Kind' it's based upon a true story, a man was apparently being visited by aliens, and in the end Shot his wife, 2 kids and himself point blank to save them from these other wordy beings.
Put that in to a new context:
The world won't end, but the world will feel a lot lighter in 2012.
The Mayan calendar has no end. It goes in cycles, or as they would say every so often the world was reborn. According to their calendar we are, I think, in the fourth "rebirth". Its not that the world will end in 2012, its that society will change completely, maybe even start over.
Even if the majority of people don't believe in the doomsday theories that have shown up throughout history, there will always be people who do. And I agree that a good amount of people might commit suicide, but I don't see the point of it. Maybe for the 'I told you so factor' if the world did end at that point?

I dunno. My two cents.
Well, i was having one of those moments, but would it not be strange if everyone started committing suicide, and that the only stereotypical people who did not do anything were emos?
I have a few friends who are emotional, slit there wrists, stick needles in there face...a bit to far for my liking, but they do it because they are depressed and hate their lives, so when the chance arises, how many of them could actually do it? Even tho it's a 'belief' to them so to speak.
On your point tho Mister Gov. The I told you factor, could not be lived in a glorious fashion tho, not 6 feet under mind you.

Good point, dude. I dunno though, people are both committing suicide and threatening to do so everyday, so I can never know who to take seriously these days. Another good point with the lack of logic of with the I told you so thing. But that just goes to explain how I don't get the point of the suicide thing.

Lack of logic? no i do not believe so, if there is an after life, they always have the opportunity to say it then, in eternal harmony.
So your logic has an ending with meaning after all.
True on the suicide perspective, so many people just thrive off of attention, the only attention which should be given is to those at school being bullied day in day out, and the children who get abused at home.
As a child your weaker and more vulnerable leading to a suicide more then a 30 year old man, who just got told he was a -place insulting sentence here- so he decides to 'attempt' suicide.
the calendars for the aztecs, mayans etc. have ended before....... Do you guys remember Y2k when it was 2000..a new millenium they all thought the computers were gonna be messed up and no one could use a computer for a long time:O. they also thought at that time the world would end and did it??NO. I think some people will kill themselves and the will be chaos in some places but I don't think that THE WORLD WILL END.
