I think we can compare the two. Who knows? Maybe in another thousand years, Christianity, Islam, etc. will all be school subjects, sort of like Greek Mythology is?

Is it possible that religion changes drastically over the times?

Actually, its exactly alike. The Christian god IS Zeus, just combined with a bunch of other gods. The old time Christians cut and pasted from other religions to get there stories.Almost every story in the Bible can be traced to a religion that was before it...

There is this nice video I found recently who fits in perfectly here I think:

Killing God

It's a tad militant, but it does make a true point. Which is: yes, religions change. Yes, the two are comparable since both are/were religions; there are lots of differences but you get the idea.

Maybe in another thousand years, Christianity, Islam, etc. will all be school subjects, sort of like Greek Mythology is?

There is another video made by the same guy (link) who shows how religion is always pushed farther away the more we advance. It hasn't directly to do with the OP but it also makes a good point. I recommend both videos to openminded people.

Well I am sure christianity will not die out completely though there aren't as many of us it is impossible for us to die out UNLESS God isn't real though I think that if he wasn't real then we wouldnt have lasted this long.Another thing the day christianity is no more is the day morals go out the door. Not to say atheists can't and aren't good people I am just saying without christianity there will be no reason to be good anymore.

No. Zeus was the king of the Gods.

God is the king of the people and universe

Of course Christianity will die out! Look at the downfall of previous 'big' religions. It'll either by forced out by force or eroded by a growing surge of belief in a different Deity(s).

Also, I'm an Atheist - I do good to be kind and have a strict set of morals - why would I need a deity for that?

Religion and belief is a source of morals and reasons to be good, but it's only one source of many. It's egoism to say that if christianity dies out, there will be no more morals and good deeds, since people will turn to other reasons/sources. I tolerate the fact that your religion gives you a reason to be good; please tolerate the fact that I have my own reasons to be good, and that those reasons aren't less important than yours.

The OP doesn't compare god to Zeus, it compares the reveration, the religion. It's principles are similar: you revere and obey a god who is, in your era and aera, counted as the 'ruling' god. With time, the belief in Zeus vanished. And with time, so will the belief in god.

Avorne if people try to use force to end christianity it will only result in christianity becoming larger. There attempts will fail as they they always have.Christians are killed and tortured every day around the world and in the middle east particuarly but that doesnt stop more muslims to be converted.

...That is because Christians have been torturing, threatening, and murdering to further there reign of terror. In most countries, just saying "Hey, this is crap!" would have gotten me killed or put in jail in the name of Christianity.

Not really, Zeus was meant to frighten and rule the people, you couldn't speak out against him whereas God is just there to give you strength.

Yeh, all your god would do would be to give people plagues, order there stoning, smite them with lightning bolts, o wait your god is the more cruel...

Ok then - your 'all-loving' god sends people to hell for all eternity for not believing in him or for breaking even a few trivial rules - in which well get tortured for all eternity. Yep, that's really not scare tactics or anything.

I see what you're saying 314d1 but without God there would be no such thing as cruel and everything God does or says is right because if like in the Egyptians case he sent the plagues upon them for not letting the his people go and keeping them as slaves. But in your mind I suppose freeing slaves as a bad thing.

All religions will eventually lose to either logic or time.

A religion that has been around for multiple millennia will eventually be erradicated by a better one in the eyes of the public. Perhaps one that still holds morals, but to a less extreme way that Christianity does.

halogunner as your vice presedint I feel obliged to tell you that if God showed himself you would basicly be forced to beleive but God doesn't want to force you he gives you a choice.
