This is not about whether or not he was the son of God but whether he actually existed. Most atheists agree that he did live but there are some who don't so what are you're thoughts?

it claims Jesus Christ existed

I am not claiming that Jesus Christ existed. I am saying that a man, by the name of Jesus, lived in Jerusalem in the time period whe associate with Jesus Christ. The link I posted clearly said that:

still another Jesus was a monomaniac who for seven years went about Jerusalem, crying, "Woe, woe, woe unto Jerusalem!" who was bruised and beaten many times, but offered no resistance; and who was finally killed with a stone at the siege of Jerusalem."

It seems to me while there may not be any stories written about a specific "John Smith" who lives near New York, the doings of another man, with a similar name, would make that "John Smith" seem like a pretty crazy guy. If tales are all created with some grain of truth in them, no matter how small, than you would have to agree that a man, who was beaten, offered no resistance, and proclaimed the end of the world, sounds awfully similar to another story that most christians and atheists have heard about before. I am not trying to prove that there was a christ! The title of the thread asks simply "Was Jesus Real?" Simply put, yes, of course he was!

This entire thread is acctually entirely pointless, because to have a valid argument about whether or not Jesus was real, you have to use texts that date back thousands of years, and you people seem heII bent on disproving the texts that I use. I can't win an argument that you are not allowing me to back with perfectly valid documents that you dissapprove of because they are linked to the Bible. If you want an answer to the question, the only thing that you have to answer it are ancient texts that are just as old as the texts used in the Bible if not older. You want to prove that the man did or did not exist?! Try to do that with out using sources that are ancient. It is impossible, and if you are going to discriminate against one source of information, than you have to discriminate against it all, becuase of course it will get flawed after 2,000 years of decay and mistreatment.

A man, named Jesus existed in Jerusalem in the time period associated with the christ. Whether or not this man was the son of god, inspired people to write about him, or if he was acctually a martyr, will never be totally proven, unless time travel is suddenly made possible. According to another thread in this forum, that is apparently impossible as well. That means that we will never know for sure, and it also means that this thread is finished.

This thread is dealing with a specific Jesus that relates to the Christians story. We really can't say if this particular Jesus had any influence on the character. I won't deny the possibility, however it is a leap to say that this Jesus definitely was the person the story was based on. If there was a real person the story was based on it's even possible the guys name wasn't even Jesus. That name could have just been added later. It's also possible there were many real people who influenced the story.

What the hell are you talking about?

A number of men by that name exist around that time period. We can try and find people who match the story.
