In my school everyone makes fun of jews i was wondering if that was just my school or if it is other places and also why do people make fun of jews so much?
K anyway the thing with jews is that people dont like them cause they think they are to different to them. I dont care about jews at all but some of the people i now hate them so much i cant stand it. What is a jew is a regular person with the almost the same we are
O.K. I'd like to point out that the word Jew does not refer to a race anymore. Turrent the fact that someone is different is the general cuase of Racism(which would work here if a Jew was a rece)or prejudices. Also most people I know that do this don't do it becuase the are racist. They do it as a joke.
@csmith995 You have to realize that the Jews are an oppressed group of people. If you look at their history, they have been slaves under the Egyptains, and they finally claimed their own land, but it has been taken away from them many times, until the Roman Empire took it away for good in 70AD by burning Jerusalem. This scattered the Jews everywhere, where the were persecuted even more, especially by the Arabs. WWII only hurt them worse. It wasn't until 1948, 69 years ago, that the Jews regained Israel, and now the Palestinians hate them. It mostly has to do with religion. The Bible states that the Jews are the Chosen People, but as the Chosen people, they must abide to religious laws. If there is a MASS sin against a certain law, God punishes them by putting them under an oppressive leader or in some other way. If you want to know more about this, read the Book of Judges. See if you notice a cycle develop.
So, to answer your question, it has to do with their religion. Their persecuation has to do with them sinning. However, this does not give you the right to make fun of them. If the Jews need to be punished for any reason, God will do it.
@Strategy_Guy The Jews aren't just following a religion; they're a culture. Someone can be a Jew, but not nescisarily believe in Judaism; likewise, someone can believe in Judaism and not be a Jew. A Jew is a blood line, just like saying someone is Scandinavian or Hispanic.
Wow Zerlock. If you are religious than you must be the worst Bible read person or whatever.
First: The Jewish culture revolves around the religion. The term "Jew" comes from Jewish or Judaism. There are different types of Judaism, but the most associated with the Jewish Culture are the Orthodox Jews. If you believe in Judaism, that means you are a Jew. If you don't believe in Judaism, you are not a Jew. Simple. A Jew is a bloodline of Religion. It is nothing like saying you are Hispanic. I think you are linking Jewish Culture with Muslim Culture, But I don't know enough about that, so I'm not sure.
Second: Jews are not persecuted for sinning. They are persecuted because some crazy bastard says so, or because they were rich people.
I mean seriously, why has there not been a persecution of Christians? Because that is the most practiced religion in the world. The Jews are a minority, so persecuting them will have the least consequences. What Mass Sin did they commit?
hojoko, you are simply wrong about Jews not being an ethnicity. The first Jews were also Jewish, but not all Jewish people today are Jews, and nor are all Jews Jewish. I know ethnic Jews who are atheist, and I know persons of other ethnicities that subscribe to the Jewish religion. The are related, but separate attributes.
Moral of this story: Please be mindful about whether you're referring to one of Jewish ethnicity, or one who follows any form of Judaism. And while you're at it, also be mindful which form that is!
While I'm at it...a lot of x'ians here think they tend to be persecuted, and it's undeniable that the roots of the religion itself began under intense persecution. It's a matter of perspective.
Kane, you were right. The thing about the orthodox Jewish culture is that it revolves around religion. People wear and do the things they do because of Shabat (excuse the bad spelling) and the Torah. Which pretty much means God.
No one I know makes fun of the Jews. I am homeschooled and everybody I hang out with are Christians, so there is not much teasing. In the chat room here though, sometimes someone says something, and I tell them that I am Jewish, and they always politley say there sorry and change the subject.
I think most people are polite and really do not mean to be hurtful, especially when talking to someone who is Jewish. But people still do make jokes and talk down about Jewish people, but I believe that its mostly because of somewhat of a tradition. The Jews were disliked by many in the past because of their immigration much like the Italians, poles, and now Hispanics. I think with time, it will die down. Is mostly kids repeating what they have heard their parents say, and as we go from generation to generation the jokes will subside.
These jokes have no concrete backing, of hate, or discrimination, and as people realize that they are really pointless and not funny, the jokes will stop.
People used to tell me Polish jokes all the time, because my friends' parents used to tell them. I haven't heard any in a really long time, and Its probably due to both Poles becoming successfully assimilated into American society, and the jokes subsiding with time.
Awhile ago, Jews were blamed for almost everything. They were always the scapegoat for everybody's problems. Nowadays, their infamous for that kind of stuff, and people tend to make fun of that..
