Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal? If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high. There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.
"By Necromancer: WeeMan147- There is a bad apple in every bunch, just because some people aren't responsible doesn't mean you should punish everyone."
Yes, there is a bad apple in every bunch, but this bunch is more bad apples than good apples. I am not sure what you have seen, but I have seen straight 'A' students smoke pot and wind up dropping out of high school and getting their G.E.D. Watch intervention, look in your local shelters, and look all around you, people are effected by drugs more so than you think. It doesn't just effect the person doing it, either. It effects the families of those that smoke or use the drugs, and the people that they kill. When you use hallucinogens you see things and certain drugs can make people very violent. The effects go way beyond the small picture.
The only way of getting out of the habit is to stop taking them, this would place the victim in great pain, therefore they are afraid of treatment, there's no way one can stop abusing drug Themself
@necromancer yes, medically marijuana is beneficial,in my opinion, the only way of "legalising them" is not to release it to the public, but to hospitals.
such drugs like Buprenorphine, sold under the trade name Subutex were ban becuz the public are abusing it,it was used for lessening the pain of abusing drug, but what happens?sometimes, beneficial medicines are abuse by public.
Alright to answer the question "Why doesn't the government legalize drugs?" Here is my opinion. The government won't legalize drugs like cocaine and marijuana because they want people to buy their drugs. Like when you see those commercials on tv for pills and they don't even tell you what it's for they just list symptoms. As for the question "Why legalize it?" I think that if all drugs were legalized the crime rate would go down. There would be no drug dealers and organized crime would take a huge hit because they won't be able to get as much money to support themselves. And people always complain that it's not good for you and you could overdose. But cigarettes are just as bad if not worse than marijuana anyway and its addictive. And if the person wants to OD on drugs oh well, that's one less idiot to deal with. And the government could tax it maybe making our bills cost less maybe. That's just my opinion though.
@crimsonblade55- 1) You spelled necromancer incorrectly. 2) You didn't capitalize the "Y" in "you". 3) You didn't add the second "o" in "too". Who's using and posting?
@WeeMan147- Now you're pleading the public safety argument. However, when drugs are legalized, violent crime rates go down which protects society more. Notice how murders doubled during Prohibition and went down shortly after it ended. Also, homicide and incarceration rates shot up after the war on drugs began with the Daniel Act in 1956. People are more violent and hurtful to others when drugs are illegal, gangs profit off of drugs and robberies are made to pay for them.
@shermzx- There are very few medications that people haven't found ways to abuse, whether it be overuse or making meth-amphetamines with them. So, what's your point?
WeeMan147- There is a bad apple in every bunch, just because some people aren't responsible doesn't mean you should punish everyone.
Now just for a second sit back and think about what that says. By legalizing the use of drugs, the people selling them would take a financial hit? So opening the market to every single person in America would somehow bankrupt the drug dealers, that's silly. I think unless the government takes over and regulates the sale of the drugs, the organized crime would double, triple, or even quadruple their income. Does anyone remember all the arms races we have had over the years? Well if everything were legalized we would have crack races, everyone would be making, growing, and producing as much as they can. I can see plenty of battles over drug turf and supply, not a lowering crime rate.
I'm not sure who said it already, but there was the prohibition.
For all of you ignorants, foreigners, or whoever else who doesn't know US history for whatever reasone (not that it's a bad thing)...The prohibition was an ammendment that illegalized alcohol. After this, things got AWFUL. This ammendment had AMAZINGLY good intentions, but it did more bad than good. Just like drugs.
There are a couple of good things that would come from legal drugs. 1) Less violence over drugs 2) No more rebellious folk trying to do drugs just to rebel 3) Ecomony could benefit
That is not what I quoted. I actually meant to quote
There would be no drug dealers and organized crime would take a huge hit because they won't be able to get as much money to support themselves.
That really ruined that post. So read that quote, then go and read my post.
To respond to Nercomancers post, legalizing drugs and your comparison to prohibition is the worst comparison you can possibly make. Taking something that was legal and something that was very popular and widely used and then banning it, that ruffles feathers. But marijuana was never legal! Sure, it was for a short period, but once the side effects were discovered, it was shut down. Alcohol was a huge revenue maker for bars and clubs and that was another reason for the huge jump in murder and lock ups.
