The topic says it all.

Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal? If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high. There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.

Total Review:

I just don't think everyone who does drugs is going to get addicted, or suffer negative health affects. My friends father, a very responsible man (owns his own successful business, is a great father, etc.) and he smokes pot occasionaly probably once a month or every two months. When he was younger he experimented when LSD, shrooms etc, and though he didn't enjoy them and he hasnn't done them since he sure didn't die from his experimentation. You never know what you'll like until you try it. And although you can look at somthing and think I'm most likely not going to enjoy that, that doesn't mean that you 100% shouldn't try it. Before I ever had Sushi (not as serious as drugs I know) I thought to myself this is going to be gross. Now, however, I love Sushi. I am a big proponent of open minds for most things, because in my opinion closed minds have caused most of the attrocities seen throughout history: Japanese-American internment during WWII, slavery, the unequal treatment of women for so long, etc. And altough the use of pot isn't exactly as grave as these examples, it's a small step from banning drus to banning alcohol, and then cigarettes, and then fast food, and then caffenie, and then sugar (well not sugar, I'm pretty sure you need a certain amount to survice). If what you are doing only harms yourself, then no one should be able to disallow that activity.

I could get on an entire triade about how our civil liberies are disapperaing at an alarming rate -PATRIOT ACT- but this is not the time nor the place.

My appologies for earlier rude comments. I was under the assumption that you were just one of the dump kids on here who have never read a word hat they didn't have to for school in their life.

Also, finally, my profile is, of course, total BS. I'm 24.

I know most people won't get addicted to drugs like weed since there is no nicotine in them. That is why the statistic is for people who use it many times like once per day will become addicted. I understand your point that people should try them but I have seen multiple kids with drug problems. I went to the hospital one day and I saw a kid who tried marijuana for his first time and ended up having too much. He nearly died but they were able to save him. I am responsible but I believe if I tried it with friends, I would be put under the pressure to have more and more. I don't mind people who do drugs. They don't affect me. I have friends who do drugs but they know not to pressure me to do them. I don't think people should judge people who do drugs based on that. Your friend's dad is a prime example of why we shouldn't judge people based on drugs.

I am an easy going person and accept your apology. I am sorry for getting all hyped up about it. I can understand your reason for thinking I am just a dumb kid at first. Trust me, immaturity is highly seen in kids my age and younger. I just decided to stop being immature and there are other kids who did the same. Maybe more kids will start doing the same.

Anyways, if they were to legalize marijuana, do you think the legal age would be 18 or 21? I really do think that drugs and alcohol should be legal at 21. My reason is that there are many high school seniors who turn 18. This means they can legally buy cigarettes (possibly weed in future) and get as many as they want. This means easier access for younger kids to get them because they can just buy them off the high school seniors. I really do think drugs in schools would lower greatly if legal age was 21. I want to keep this on topic so just state if you would rather have the legal age for weed be 18 or 21 if it was legalized.

Why would we Legalize Drugs!
If we legalized drugs more gangs would appear and even more violence. The plan would back fire. People would be doing them and thinking they could do anything are country would be ruined before the next day. Also in other countries where drugs are illegal there drug lords would come to the U.S and help destroy even more becuase it's "legalized". There main operation would be in the U.S.This topic is horribe why would you even think that.

You can't argue this with little kids because they haven't progressed past the point where all they believe is what they are told by their partens and schools. Yes, you should NOT!!! try drugs until you are 18. I am not advicating drug use for children however you will learn at a certain point in your life that things you've been taught as children were only really taught to you so you don't do them when you are children. Do not have sex, drink alcohol, or try drugs while you are children. This is smart and quality advice. However, for an adult, drugs, sex, and alcohol are not as bad as you've been taught.

True but those drugs are used for medical uses. Which I still think is insane. Then most of the time the people using the drug gets addicted to it and uses the drug to much. Then they hurt them selves.

More gangs - Possibly
More violence - No. What would they fight about if it was legal? Most of the gang wars are due to a shortage of drugs so they fight each other for the drug.

Also in other countries where drugs are illegal there drug lords would come to the U.S and help destroy even more becuase it's "legalized". There main operation would be in the U.S.This topic is horribe why would you even think that.

I highly doubt the government would just let drug lords into the country. Also, how would that destroy us more? They come here, take the drugs, and then they are gone.

drugs, sex, and alcohol ruin peoples life.

Choices in general ruin people's lives. Every single choice you make has negative effects to it. Without sex, none of us would be here. If you are mature enough, you know what will and will not wreck your life.

Then most of the time the people using the drug gets addicted to it and uses the drug to much. Then they hurt them selves.

Uneducated guesses are not a good source of evidence. First of all, it is not like they use cocaine for medical use. They may use marijuana which has no nicotine in it. Basically, you just made a very bad assumption without any facts or evidence involved.

For the most part I agree with you Total Review, but I do think there would be a short term spike in violence. Because, if people are still getting the drug, and they're not growing it, then they're buying it. If people are buying it, then someone is making money off of it. If it is legal then there is no need to buy from that source and smuggle it anymore when you could buy it from Wal-Mart. Someone will lose a fortune and it could be violent.

You have good points all around TotalReview
but
I have first hand experience when it comes to drugs, sex, and alcohol. I think I know how people will act once they start doing the crap to. Not me but my ****ing dad.

Marijuana for medical purposes is grown in an enclosed area by the government. There is no need for it to be legal for that reason. If you really need it, then the hospital officials will gladly provide it.
