Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal? If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high. There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.
The best way to answer this question is to research countries where they have legalized drugs and see how it works. I think it is switzerland or sweden that allow heroine addicts to get their fix of heroine from a clinic and, in that country they have more people who quit heroine completely and forever than in our country where people get substitutes like methodone.
But the consequences of legalizing drugs would make an already large problem completely out of control.
Name the consequences.
Huge amounts of people trying to try it legally (at first), many more dealers, and legalizing marijuana could lead to legalizing other, harder drugs. Notice I said could.
And to those saying marijuana doesn't cause addictions, you can create psychological addictions to anything, which in some cases are even worse. Again. It might. It also might not.
I don't believe in any substance for recreational use that affects the mind and consciousness and/or body, even slightly. That does not include medical purposes, things like anti-psychotic drugs or things used to treat diseases.
I think the main problem is controlling it. The governments of the world have enough trouble containing smoking (because it harms people around you) and drinking (because a society of drunks is fail). Drunk driving is becoming an increasingly big problem, the last thing we need is high driving. Now, if people did drink responsibly, then the government would know that they'd smoke responsibly and it wouldn't be a problem. Ignoring the fact that not all people can be trusted with pot, I'm all for legalizing marijuana.
The government thinks of it this way, why have 2 problems when you can have one. Even if it's not as dangerous as drunk driving, if it's legallized, it's another problem they have to deal with, and they have enough of those as it is.
Its funny, because those drugs are actually worse for you than marijuana and shrooms and can cause more problems than they fix. Those are a problem.
I would like to see some sources.
Maybe with some medications, but there are many people with mental illnesses that aren't stable without medication. It could very well be worth the problems.
So? Thats got nothing to do with it being pot. It has to do with people having an addictive personality. If we outlawed everything because it could be psychologically addicting, everything would be illegal. Psychological addiction isn't a reason to make something illegal, because everything has the same probability to become psychologically addicting.
I agree, it should have nothing to do with pot being outlawed. I was just replying to those who were saying that it didn't cause addictions.
If thats true, the legalization of alcohol and tobacco would have lead to legalized heroin and crack.
Again, I specifically said could. It's really just a worry of mine; not really an argument against it.
Thats not a problem. You need to tell us why thats a problem. Plus, 6% isn't a huge number.
Is that 6% overall people using, or people using at first? Because I meant at first, and not necessarily continuing after that.
If thats true, the legalization of alcohol and tobacco would have lead to legalized heroin and crack.
alcohol/tabacco is leading to the legalization of marijuana.
tons of people would think that since weed isn't as bad, why should other ones be bad?
alcohol/tabacco does not justify legalising pot. EX. a lion bites your arm off. now you put a pitbull to your other arm and have him bite.
if pot is ever legalised it should be used in a fashion where it does the least amount of harm to your body and for medical purposes only. and at least have an age restriction.
