To all of you who say "religion gives happiness" I say this: If you have to live a lie to be happy then do everyone a favor and put a bullet through your skull.
Seriously, if you cannot find reasons to live and enjoy life and be happy without devoting you entire life to a fairy tale then you really are a very sad, pathetic creature and you'd probably be doing the gene pool a favor by not procreating or even continuing you existence.
Life is a majestic, quirky, entertaining, frustrating, and surprising thing and there is limitless beauty and wonder to experience. If you seriously have to trivialize all of that and say that only what your god says really is then you need a good healthy dose of ritalin, and probably glasses too, because you are blind to the splendor that surrounds you.

While I agree that a certain amount of tact is desirable... some people have gotten sick of the FACT that religion is not helping and has actually been making things worse all along. Then tact goes out the window cos they are screaming at you to see the elephant in the room but the religious ppl will argue that the elephant is non-existent and that we should all bow down to their particular groups deity. I can see the elephant... we have a good relationship. We have a giggle at the religious people. Some people, perhaps mrwalker is one, would rather the elephant leave so we can get some space and have a breather. Problem is the elephant needs help from the religious people to leave and like I said, they say its not their.

I disagree. I think we need to be MORE critical of ideology, especially our own. And especially when that ideology is the majority view and affects the policies and laws which govern everyone in my country.
As long as an unfounded, hypocritical, contradictory, and outrageous fairy tale is cited as a basis for the morals, laws, and standards in my country I will continue to be critical of it.
i am a christian, and have doubted it a few times, but in my hardest times, i hear a voice or get a feeloing, which somehow helps me a ton, so i do believe in god, he always helps me in the end

By the sound of it it's just your own subconscious your deriving this help from rather then a deity.
