Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked an effort by Democrats and the White House to lift the ban on gays serving openly in the military, voting unanimously against advancing a major defense policy bill that included the provision.

Do you feel that the military should keep the DADT policy, or do away with it and why?

How do you know it won't effect people for the better? An ex-soldier here's somebody spewing vile homophobic hatred about gays and or them serving in the army then just walks up "I served with a gay guy, he could take little worms like you down without breaking a sweat - he was as tough as any of the rest of us."

Dude your making up an unrealistic scenario.

Doesn't really affect anyone, I don't see how it matters if the other soldiers know or if they don't. Maybe just less picking up soap in the showers?

This is ridiculous! America is a country filled with fear mongering rednecks who think the word change is blasphemy. Dozens of countries have adopted this policy along with legal gay marriage. Homosexuals are human beings just as much as heterosexuals I think every homophobe needs to get their head out of their a*s and accept reality as it is.

And Holt how about you be the first one to start. All I hear from you is "Blah blah blah this will be bad"

Well I suggest you see an eye doctor.

Holt, wolf is saying that your arguments are not valid, or sound for that matter. You really haven't even made a conclusion, except that you feel it will affect soldiers in the military.

So, why don't you make a valid argument and present it.

I have if you would mind reading my posts. But since you won't I will say again.... My stand on the issue is it will effect soldiers and their moral and as to repealing it other then that point I just stated I have no stand on it.

How can we possible expect solders to work coherently with each other, when they know who they are fighting along side doesn't share dick harmony with them? Sharing dick harmony is the most important thing you can have with another man!

How to Hate the Gays 2 - A Cure for the Straight

Clearly the answer to all of this is that those who are straight must not tell or in any way indicate they are straight unless they want to risk being booted out of the military.

I have an idea, to see if this would work.

How about this: Take one division. JUST one division of our military, repeal it for that one division for 18 months. Carefully observe the reactions of every single person in the division, gay or straight, and observe if anything changes.

Remember than because it works in leftardville Britain doesn't mean it will work in conservatard America. Two COMPLETELY different mindsets, mentalities, and cultures. This needs large scale study before we can draw conclusions.

Holt, what evidence do you have that it would affect their morale, besides your opinion? We have numerous examples that it does not, that are already posted.

As stated before, there are already gays in the military. I've dated a few and all of their squads/platoons, etc knew about it.

Thank you for posting that! Now, certainly someone has done some research on this in another country, especially UK.

this is my point exactly, they wont. i live in a small mountain town in oregon, there isnt a lot of ways to get out here, and alot of the parents arent necesarily the brightest stars in the sky, i have watched so many of my friends go to the military, and in highschool, before their recruitment, being gay was seen as something as bad as murder. this is how they were raised, its in their heads, its not right, but what can we do.

nevet, I see your point about the small-mindedness, but how else would you overcome such ways of thinking if you don't make changes?

slowly, patiently. forcing it is a sure fire way to a massive breakdown in communication.

How can you slowly do something like this? You can either be openly gay in the military or you can't.

The best method is to just push ahead with it and soon enough people won't remember what they were complaining about.
