Okay,so I was reading Time Magazine this morning and found this article about some religious group protesting with signs like,"Go to Hell!"and,"Thank God For Dead Soldiers",as well as others. Then they say they are anti-Semitic,anti Christian, and anti-American.At that point,I was seriously offended. What do you think about it?

they'll find a reason to sue for that and if you hate America then why should you still gain it's constitutional rights?

Because those rights aren't given to based on your personal feelings about the country.

thats why there should be a limit to freedom of speech that could be considered verbal terrorism and it's also considered treason cause they had signs that said god hates america

Limit and freedom are opposites. If you limit it you take freedom away from speech and turn it into censored speech.

I'm saying don't call it free speech if its not.
I do believe they should be allowed to say that, but not for any stereotypical hippie bs.

I firmly disagree. Any time to begin to impose censorship of any kind you are opening the doors to oppression. Also, I wouldn't call it treason either. Disagreeing with your government is not treason, and look at the nations where it was like that, especially in Britain and France several hundred years ago. We all saw how well that worked out, and it's exactly the kind of thing the founders of America were opposed to.

Again, although I firmly disagree with what these groups are saying I must honestly say that they are well within their rights and those rights should not be altered in any way.

How about we stand next to the WBC protesters with a sign that reads "Thank You Fallen Soldier, ignore these ingrates".

This. Exactly. That soldier died defending a country which grants freedom of speech and in my opinion any attempt to censor your detractors simply trivializes the cause for which that soldier laid down their life.

"It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag."

I completely disagree. It's one of the few things I highly respect about America. Our ability to speak out against our country is a strength if anything. It's just a shame it's far to often used more by asshats.

Yes, if I have to put up with idiots like these so that I don't have to worry about my freedom to speak my mind not be censored, I'll gladly allow it.

Aye! I'd have to agree here. This is certainly a case of you-can't-have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too.

Even though I really HATE that saying, it fits.

Exactly. What some of you seem to not be realizing is that if you allow censorship and/or stipulations placed on the rights of a group then it probably won't be too long before you yourself are part of a group being censored. Better to tolerate the idiots in exercise of their rights in order to ensure that those who think you are an idiot have to tolerate you when you exercise your rights.

You'd think they'd have some amount of respect for the dead though. Especially the man or woman who died protecting the very right they're using to crash this soldier's funeral.

Ah, the awesome powers of tolerance. I agree with this, but can stuff like this really be deemed tolerable? It's not illegal, so people are just going to leave them around spouting garbage? Those people have no respect for others' lives and their sacrifice to protect the rights they take for granted.

Certainly. Are they directly interfering with you? Nope. Are they threatening or making you unsafe? Nope. So ignore them. Sure, it's frustrating, childish, disrespectful, asinine, hypocritical, and bullshit. So why stoop to their level and try to censor them? They are trolling, and we all know not to feed the trolls XD

I'm just waiting until the day an mourner snaps and goes off on them. I can honestly say that if I was there, I wouldn't lift a finger to stop it, at that point they got what was coming to them. Karma's a bitch.

Agreed. If the supreme court decides to censor them then they might as well have thrown part of the first amendment out of the window.
