You're fine, Ash, you're fine XD

Nemo brings a good point. I guess we have to "accept" the evils of protesting in order to not supress the good that comes out of it.

but some protests can be blatantly wrong or unneeded and cause unnecessary hurt.

But, you are changing the language. The first amendment is not talking about harm to others in that sense. It says &quoteaceful assembly."

How am I changing it?

I do not want any laws to pass that prohibits this cult from protesting because these same laws will be used against other protesters who are fighting for a good cause.

Exactly.

Honestly, I think the best thing to do with Fred Phelps' cult is to kill them with kindness and humor. I mean, this makes me laugh pretty loud every time:

Like I said we should sick the clowns on them.

but some protests can be blatantly wrong or unneeded and cause unnecessary hurt.

How should we determine that?

How should we determine that?

Create a scale of 1 to 5. Sort of like how we rate tornadoes and hurricanes. Except this will be called the DB scale (guess what DB stands for and you get a prize). 1 being tolerable and 5 meaning they need to be shot.

We would still be left with the same problem of determining where something sits on this scale.

If you mean soemthing like the TORRO scale it needs a formula, without a formula you cannot scientifically and unbiasedly determine where something sits on the scale.

Except if you mean to make something like the Fujita scale, which rates the strength of the tornadoes based on the damage they cause. Still though, how can accurately count the damage a protest causes?

Emotional trauma, severity of the protest, distance from event, presence of children 10 or under. etc...

Personally this one gets to me. As an atheist I really don't give a shit about the "sanctity" of funerals, but as a US military veteran I am deeply offended by these asshats. The reality of the situation is that if it weren't for military personnel then these fucktards wouldn't even have the right to protest in the first place. It seems to me that far too often people overlook or discount the sacrifices made by the military personnel of their nation and forget that if it were not for fallen soldiers then that nation would not have many of the basic rights and freedoms it now enjoys. Remember, this is the land of the free BECAUSE of the brave....

But people should not protest for just any random reason, but something that is right. And if those sick turds actually believe their right, then they should just keep it to themselves, the *****. If people go to war, whether or not its for a good reason, they are putting their lives on the line for their country. If they do end up dying, what right do those people have to metaphorically spit on their grave? OH WAIT, THEY DON'T.

I bet Fred Phelps is actually a flaming, militant homosexual with hundreds of fetishes and thousands of dollars spent on male prostitutes. He doth protesteth too much.

In all seriousness though, the WBC is probably one of the things I hate the most in the entire world. These people disrespect everybody.

I've always wanted to go stand next to them with a sign that says "God hates the WBC".
