Weeeeewt, my town was mentioned in the 10 o'clock news just now! It was mentioned because a guy who was once a victim of child abuse from a teacher recently moved here, but still, a mention on the news!
So, have you or your school or your town/village ever been mentioned on the news or in the paper and why?

I don't mean you to reply if the place you live is an important place, for example, if I lived in Cambridge my town would be mentioned constantly on the news, I mean you to reply if something particularly relevant to you has come up. In January my headteacher made a little speech for BBC Look East (Eastern England specific news) about how he thinks it is ridiculous that schools across East Anglia immediately close as soon as the first snow falls, even when its not a hinderance to staff or students. There were short video clips of us having a snowball fight in the school field
My current city (Auckland) is always on the news so I might as well talk about my suburb.. Last time I saw it on the news was last week. Something about the former PM's old house.. I forgot.
I also saw my school on television when that teachers' strike thing broke out.
My county got mentioned on the Today Show (I believe), about a girl from North Vigo high school who placed 3rd(?) in the national texting competition and received $1000 or something from it.
been mentioned in 2 local papers for winning the school+ county spelling bee ( pwnasaurus stirkez again!), then losing to an amish kid ( my god i had no chance >.> )at region.
been mentioned in local paper for serving as a page to state Senate.
former school mentioned for mah former principal being accused of child molestation ( ikr?).
the news was doing a shot in walmart about the best prices in town. I danced behind the camera (it was live) and ended up on tv for a good minute and a half.
People were like "Dude, wtf where you doing dancing for the news?"
It was a few years ago, but still. It was awesome.
I've been in the newspaper a lot. 1 for getting 7th score in the world in the Knowledge Master Open. One for the environment, me and my friends tried to make our school stop using paper plates (also was online), and another for a huge boyscouts assembly.
I was in the local paper when I was 13, I did this little meet and greet with the school board, along with other students from the middle & high schools.
