Are they real or not? I am very curious to hear everyones opinion. Le's Discuss. No matter which side you are on, please explain why you feel this way so others can better understand your opinion. Thanks!

How can it be flat and contain 3 dimensional shapes? (just asking)

Here's a reply I was able to find on the subject.

"It's great when our readers answer their own questions! #2 is totally correct - when we say the universe is flat it is not in the same sense that a piece of paper is flat, but rather means that the geometry of the universe is such that parallel lines will never cross, the angles in a triangle will always add up to 180 degress, and the corners of cubes will always make right angles. We call this kind of geometry (the kind you learned in school) Euclidean geometry."

Forgot I also wanted to include this. It give a bit more explanation on how we know the universe is flat. It also says we know this within a 2% margin of error.

The existence of extraterrestrial creatures is probable, but I don't think we would want to meet them, because if they are smart they are going to be almost definitely hostile.

The universe is infinite so therefore there is an infinite amount of chances there is life on other planets

Did you work that one out or did it hit your head like the frying pan epiphany angel?

Fail. Do you honestly think mankind is "the best"? Christ, we're ignorant savages! Every thinks we're so great because we managed to get this far with luck.

Some seem to try and "read" others through blobs of text. Look, it was a dramatization to those who say Aliens aren't real. Of course I don't believe what I said. Sp if you wanna go and say "Fail", it'd be you.

We are the best? you just disproved yourself. why can we not care about plant life? aliens don't exist? prove it.
extra terrestrial life does exist. we literally can not be the only life in the universe and that is a fact. prove me wrong.

Like I said before, it wasn't literal. So, chill. And if we really did care about plant life, we wouldn't be suffocating ourselves and cutting down entire forests.
And, why do I have to &quotrove you wrong" when you haven't proved me wrong yet. You basically stated that you "assume" their is life in other galaxies because space is infinite. We don't even know for a fact that it IS infinite. So therefore we don't even know if life exists for sure. We can assume, but we can assume anything really, it doesn't make it true. Be realistic not subjective.

They? As in all aliens? Most humans are "smart" and not all or "almost definitely hostile". Think of the universe as a bigger world than ours. There are different races, and personalities, which means you can't just say all are hostile if smart, or all are peaceful.

You might wan to read page 5. As I already said even if the universe was infinite, the matter in it is finite. So the chances are finite.

well, we do have ~10^22 - 10^24 stars in the universe, so even if we are conservative and say that there are only a couple of planets/planetoid moons around each star it's pretty easy to see that there is a very real possibility that some form of life has sprung up somewhere.

Panspermia suggests we are all "Aliens". Here.

the Universe is so vast and with many galaxies and planets there could be aliens on the newly discovered planet. you never know, but just think of it our small planet and the universe you think theres a chance for life out there?

I believe there is life on other planets, but I think it wouldn't be intelligent life. It would probably be some form of bacteria.

Really? I would assume, if there is life out there, that there are all sorts of kinds. Plant, animal, intelligent, etc.

It's quite possible that 'bigger' beings, whatever you may call them, have evolved elsewhere, but imo the chance that intelligent life has evolved at the same time than we have, is very small; the chance that an advanced civilization exists and travels through space at this very moment, vanishingly small. Just think about how young we are as a species, how young our civilization is, and if we go on like that we won't even survive as long as the neanderthals have. If an advanced civilization has existed elsewhere, the chances that it has disappeared long ago is very high.

I'm not bothering to read the previous posts but here are my thoughts on aliens.

It all depends on what your definition of "alien" is. A life form on another planet or a totally different species that is unknown to man. We all know that some planets out there, whether it be in our solar system or not, will have "bacteria" in them. As for intelligent species, I have no clue. Chances are there will be us, and maybe 1000 other planets like ours, now. You may think that's a big number, but imagine, our universe is expanding constantly so 1000 planets like ours is a very small number. Now, there may be more "intelligent" life forms out there but not in this time period. Which is pretty weird since time is an irrelevant thing in space.
