Just sayin'. There has not been one permanent thing done by a human on this Earth, to Earth. Our lives revolve around the fact that we want to be happy and make a lot of money, but what is true happieness, and if we find it, it is pointless to another human who is still searching for their happieness and vica-versa.
Not trying to be a downer here, but I just want to know what you think about the futility of being a mortal with no real purpose other than to find a personal Utopia.
Just because it ends don't diminish the point of having it in the here and now.
Yes it does. When life ends there will be no further point to owning the car. I understand that the car has a purpose when you use it and it helps you but in the end it was a pointless endeavor because it ends.
We are able to reflect on life as we are now though. We are able to take the evidence we have already gained and evaluate it. We don't have to wait for all the evidence, we just have to re-evaluate when new evidence comes along. Besides if all the possible evidence can only be obtained while we are alive then evidence after the fact is not evidence we can obtain. We don't need to operate in absolutes just degrees.
Yes we can reflect on life but we are unable to come up with any absolute definitions. If the question is whether or not life is pointless then there must be questions on absolutes. As you say,
evidence after the fact is not evidence we can obtain
, hence we will never be able to categorically state whether life has a point or purpose.

No thats not right. If thats the case you could argue that NON life is pointless too and therefore everything is pointless. Even this argument about pointless things.
We give it a point, thats the point. Im categorically stating that I give the world meaning. Therefore life has a point now. It matters not what you say because any contradiction to my point is pointless, ergo, point.
Why does life need a point again? To make ourselves feel special and needed?
Life doesn't need a point, but people get desperate when they realize life has no absolute point; so basically, yes. It would be so simple to accept that you have to give life your very own reason, and that apart from it life is here to be lived and nothing more. But people need something to give them their reason to be, they can't do this themselves because they wouldn't take it seriously enough.
i know this sounds nerdy as heck but me and my friend came up with this..life is like a videogame set to the most extreme difficulty you get no extra-lives/1ups/continues you have to solve riddles/puzzles (like school work) you have to train extra hard to get stronger and stuff (like working out) and all that stuff and god did this just to see who had to skills to beat the game (living a good full life)
Life is sorta pointless, especially in todays society.
We go to school to get a job, we get a job, work rest of our lives, die. Seems the way the middle class works, with somewhat of pleasure time. But i cant concieve of anything else that we would do instead?

Reminds me of Chappelle's Show when they did 'if life was a video game'.
Instead of wondering why you're living (literally), wonder why you aren't livin'! (partying/extremes)

Someone close to me had the opposite problem. She was "livin" so much with partying/extremes that she got lost. She kept complaining that she was never having enuf fun, so I questioned her asking "do you remember all the partys you have been to"... "no" It was the drugs that messed things up for her. Good thing she had people like me around who helped her come to her senses.
Life is all about balance. Its only pointless if you really feel that once you die all you did has no point. Otherwise, within our human races time, all that everyone does has a point, be it good or bad. I like to think of it a lil like the butterfly effect.

And why can't that be right? Why does everything need a purpose? It seems to me that humans just want to find a point to everything when there may not be one.
