Don't know what progressive music is? Well, here are some examples of each sub-genre to get started. Note that all genres are awesome, but some are harder to get used to than others:

Yes... yes we are gonna be friends. : D
Dream Theater stays as my favorite Progressive Metal band, and is probably my favorite band overall. They're plainly incredible. Metropolis pt.2: Scenes From a Memory is the best album I have heard on my life.
King Crimson is great, and so is ELP. x3. Emarosa and Tides of Man I need to check out, though. Thanks for the recommendations.
also a good band that isnt together anymore thats like really hardcore prog is a band called the number 12 looks like you

I had a pretty bad experience with a DT concert >_<. Sounds weird? That's because I couldn't go. Yeah, I basically had to go to another concert instead since they decided to make it the exact same night xD. So yeah, great night, but I'd have loved to see DT instead... :<
I screwed up with the quote O_o. I have no idea how that happened. Sorry xP.
Coldplay. Yeah, completely prog unrelated and not nearly as good, but I still enjoyed the night =P. I used to like alternative back then. Now... not as much.
