Thats not the belief. If you are unable to be baptized then you still can go to heaven. Also if you die a baby then you still go to heaven, this beleif has a real name but it basiclly is if you had no way of finding god and you lived a good life then you still go to heaven. Tjis is coming off a friend of mine.
DragonMistress, that is a false belief. According to the Bible, those who do not have conscious control of their thoughts (like babies, in a sort of speaking) will not be judged, so those babies who die without a chance will go to heaven. This, of course, is coming from a devoted Christian, not implying this upon anyone else's private beliefs. If you do not want to believe in this, fine with me. Everyone has a right to believe what they want.
10 and under, this sounds like your making it a rollercoaster or something lol. The belif I think is if you do not have the capabiltiy to choose or not choose god(i.e. your retared and can't make a rational beleif, or you've never had the chance to have god, the Native Americans)and if you've lived a good life you go to heaven. If you had no chance to live a good life or choose god then you still go to heaven. Baptism, I think, is just a way to live as Jesus did. It's neccasary in the Catholic belief but not so much in some of the Prodisant.(No idea how to spell that, its the non-catholic christians, tring to sound smart with big words )
In my experience, baptism is just an outward expression of an inward reality...meaning--If you have been saved by GRACE through FAITH, then baptism is just one way of proclaiming that to the world...HOWEVER, to say that baptism is the only way to be saved is NOT biblical, nor is it correct. Saying that is the same as saying that going to church, or reading your Bible will save you...while they are both good to do, the ONE AND ONLY thing that can save anyone is Jesus, it's NOTHING we do that is acceptable to God, not even getting baptised. If getting baptised meant we were saved, then Jesus might as well have NEVER died. Since he did die, and raise again, now we know that's the only way to God...not by baptism, nor by praying, nor by ANY other means. Do it if you feel you must, but the only thing that saves us is God's grace.
Here's something to help prove my point: When Jesus died on the cross he was flanked by two sinners. One refused Him while the other accepted him. He wasn't baptized but Jesus still said:
Luk 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Yeah. I feel really great that I was babtized. I feel like that I am getting one step closer to god. I believe it is like this. I'm on one side of a cliff...God is on the side. I got babtized (I added a board to my bridge), I got my First Communion (I added another board to my bridge), and I went through Reconciliation (I added another board to my bridge). See look...I have three boards for my bridge...three steps taken to getting closer to God. So I don't believe that once you Babtized your automatically saved, but you are one step closer to God.

There are three ways to be baptized
By water - water symbolizes life, it is not just about pouring water on a screaming baby, it is to symbolize that he is officially alive in the church and in the body of christ
By blood - meaning martyrdom for your faith, you automatically go to haven if you are a martyr for the catholic faith, and are also baptized at the same time
By desire - If you truly desire to be with God and to be baptized, and you are not able to get baptized by water, then you can be baptized, this was the case in the bible verse that sithman05 quoted
