"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." - Proverbs 20:1
I am personally not against ever touching a drop of alcohol (having a drink at a wedding, or to celebrate something, eh I don't think God will smite one for that) but most Catholics I know drink far too much, in my opinion.
Also, I believe xgamer is referring to those pamplets that say "You are going to hell"; however, if you read on it says that through Jesus all can be saved.
Pff, I am greatly pissed off by people who act like fools, such as Skipper just did. He comes in here, states that the basis of what myself, steevo, and others, is false... but then does not give any information to back up his statements.
As far as the drinking thing goes, if you consume alcohol on a regular weekly basis, that is too much in my opinion. Just my own thoughts, but if you look foward to "having some drinks on a weekend", even if it consists of just a few, well I do not believe God would be too pleased about such an act. Not that one might be kept out of heaven for it, but one might not recieve the fullest of their gifts in His kingdom.
Also, I do not believe it is considered an unforgivable sin (forgive me if I am wrong, not to up-to-date on all of the Catholic beliefs), but it would send someone to hell - suicide is a sin, but if you commit such an act, you are dead, and cannot repent of your action.
I don't drink yet but when I'm 21 I'm going to become a social drinker not a alcholaic. I don't remeber in the bible your god saying that drinking in general was bad. He only says that don't drink so much that you arn't in control of your own body and mind.
Well Skipper, you did not say 'why' it is foolish to believe in being saved, Christianity, and the like. You just said you thought the idea was crap, without backing up that opinion with any facts or personal experiences, etc.
Well homegrove as for the drinking thing. God isn't some guy who is very strict and doesn't want you to ever have pleasure or happyness, which for some people is having a drink or two over the weekend, but like Strategy_guy said,
He only says that don't drink so much that you arn't in control of your own body and mind.
And as for the suicide thing. Why should you get the chance to repent if you just ended the life that God gave you? Instead of ending it, the person could have seeked help from a friend or family, or turn to God for help
