I think Black Ops has a great Storyline for a first-person shooter, as the whole extent of your actions is revealed in the end and I just love the "MY NAME IS VICTOR REZNOV!" part^^
Otherwise, I would say Gothic I&II (Both German RPGs), which nearly nobody knows but which are great games.

The first Kingdom Hearts was superb and easily one of my favourite PS2 games. However, I honestly think it should've stayed a single game because the story in itself was self-contained. By making millions of sequels and Side-games they went waaaaaaay overboard with the story and it's just become a complete mess (though the gameplay is still excellent and is the main reason why I still keep playing those )

i think the only game we could have delt without was 358/2 chain of memories has many many key moments that would make alot of stuff in the second game more clear. birth by sleep, well that game is just like a blast from the past and explains ALOT of stuff and is indeed a KEY moment in the overall story line of things

The best for me would have to be Heavy Rain. Just so suspenseful and dramatic. Also very mysterious.

Here are two great ones.
Splinter Cell & Metal Gear Solid series. Out of all the games that I've played those would have to be the greatest. If you've actually played all of them then you'll understand were I'm coming from.

you should play kingdom hearts

I have played it. But I don't remember it well. It was one of them on the PS2 and I was about 11.
I think I should get it again though. I hear it's very fun to play.

Please don't call me that. Just call me Matrix.

I'd say Red Dead Redemption, and also Black Ops, the former just a superb flow of the game (though Mexico kinda slowed it down though), and the latter because of the massive Mindf* at the end...

The first Kingdom Hearts was self-contained. The rest where not. My point was, that the story didn't need to be as complicated as it is right now, seeing that the original has a much more simpler plot by comparison.

it really isnt as complicated as it sounds. if youve played all the games, then its pretty easy to figure out. allthough birth by sleep kinda left me with a few questions which shall be answered when another KH game comes out. that 3D one is probably a joke and just a scam to get money, but ill jsut borrow it from a friend to see if its worth my time.

Exactly....now you need new games to answer plot points from previous games. So in the end you absolutely NEED to play every game to understand the story which just comes off as a rip-off to me.

But if you look back at the first game, it's completely self-contained. All the loose ends are tied up and no unanswered questions remain. If it ended right there, nobody would've complained. But then Square decides to through in Boss Fights with "mysterious characters" for the japanese versions to purposely leave open plot points (something they kept doing for KH1, KH2 and Birth By Sleep) so new games can be made to answer those.

well.. i do think the story got complicated but in the end i cant say anything bad about it (i havnt played birth by sleep though). i mean although roxas was interesting no one would really notice if 385/2 days would never come out. still i really loved that game and im really happy i got it. although the story wasnt really important (compared to the main story) i still love the story there as a main. hmm... im having troubles explaining myself XD.anyway i really think that 385/2 days is a good game on its own and probably like any other kingdom hearts game

Easy. Kingdom Hearts. It has the best storyline I've ever seen in a videogame.

Actually, I think waw doesnt count because it was based of ww2 haha.

I think the best storyline was in halo, I remember playing halo 1 when i was a little kid and as ive grown the halos have "evolved". I havnt played reach but im sure they did a great job.

black ops easily had the best story line.

Too like MW2, whereas Russia is bad in one way or another, even if not deliberately. Also I hate the deal that there was supposed to be a "grand scheme" going on, whereas it was nothing that I expected (in a bad way) because it was so flat. If they had turned the tables and made, say, made America the bad dude that has been attempting to undermine these "bandit lords" that were actually getting feed information off America through some inethical methods. Or something. In this way that would inflict the truth on you in that neither faction is a good one. Somewhat familiar to MW2, which would further homogenize it, so there's a bit of a puddle. Unless they expanded the storyline further, which would have been great, I would say.

In either case, Black Ops was not different, was not unique and was not worth the money I spent on it (in comparison to something like StarCraft II or even Dragon Age: Origins).

Anyway, rant is over. On topic, I believe these games / movies have the best storylines:
Lord of the Rings (it is original, I know it is a basic generic fantasy but it was original back in the day, I reckon).
Mass Effect II (Especially the ending where *SPOILERS* you give that fantastic speech, destroy the enemy Collector Ship, or w/e it was and then you listen to the Harbinger with his wrath upon you. *SPOILER ENDED*)
World of Warcraft - How much lore, how some of it connects to Earth Mythology and the quantity of it is amazing. Quality is also very good.
Stargate - Mythology, Science, History, Astronomy, Biology, Religion, and awesomeness in one **** series.
Wait... Three series actually, and two movies (soon three, one based on Atlantis), as well as several other media pieces. This is probably the best storyline I've ever known.
Starcraft - I've only played Starcraft II but it was very grasping with the huge variety of different characters which many other games / films etc lack.

It could still be considered spam. Rather annoying.

The metal gear solid games have a good story line. I find myself playing them a lot. I just love how good the game actually is. If you would like to read up on the story line on it go here: Storyline for Metal gear solid.
The game was just great. Most people I know enjoy playing it.
