China certainly does indeed possess Grade-B aircraft technology. But what of the army? The Navy? The population of the military is nothing to scoff about, sure, but how does their armory fare? Do they have the technology of a superpower?
I would say in sheer might, China is worthy of being a superpower. It takes technology and proper military tactics to support the sheer might, however.
Then there's the fact that this particular article doesn't really cover all that, just the air-force. Maybe if we had more links to the other aspects of China's military, we can make better conclusions
I think we need to keep a close eye on China. Not the goverment, they're already doing that. But all people should be aware of things like this. At least China is getting better in general.
don't they have to where surgical masks down there from the pollution? and i'm pretty sure they hunted the dragons to extinctions. Well my plans there have been ruined

I went to several major cities there and I didn't have to. Not because of a lack of warning, I really didn't have o and no one else was. Or maybe it was lucky that week?

"China really doesn't know what to do with its power. It has a lot of newfound capability but it hasn't decided what it wants to do or where to project its power."
When I saw this I nearly flipped. Seriously? Looked who invaded Iraq/Afghanistan. Look who hasn't pulled out after near a decade of empty promises and unnecessary deaths.
There are flashpoints: China's support for North Korea, the status of Taiwan, disputed islands with Japan.
There are two factions in China's government. One supports the North, one is more pro-US. It suits China to play off the North and the US, seeing the North serves as a useful thorn in the side of the Americans. Yet, no one in their right minds would welcome a tottering nation with nuclear missiles on their border.
And well to be fair, the Chinese regard SEA, and the area around it as it's own backyard after centuries of dominance. And, I won't blame them for hating the Nips till today. I still hate them for what they did.
China's greatest weapon is also its greatest threat: its size. Sure, its nice to have the worlds largest army, but you have the worlds largest army. In comparison with the US, which has a smaller army, its astounding. The US spends the highest of any country on defense (more than Spain, Iceland, and Greece spend in one year, combined). The US spends more, on less people, meaning that they can get more technology and training to its forces.
China, on the other hannd, is spending considerbly less on Military Spending. And with more people to spend on, the overall quality will go down. China may end up looking like Nazi Germany: they'll have a great plane, but not enough to make a large enough impacct (much like Germany's Panther/Tiger tanks)
Ultimatly, the maxim of 'Quality, not quantaty' prooves to be correct. China would try to muscle its way, while the US can fall back on its technology.

China has already forseen that, and is hence trying to build up it's technology.
Btw, world's first anti-ship ballistic missiles? Cool. The newspapers reported a Chinese scholar's reaction to Americans scoffing at it.

when your spending less money, for more people, like China is with their military, your overall technology quality is gonna go down, or a select group will have good tech, while the magority won't.

So what, the same effect of a cruise missile, but more range? Kinda a waste, unless it has MERV capabilities. I'd just get closer, and use sub-launched cruise missiles.

It's main and only purpose is to sink American Carriers.

THAT'S WHY THEIR BUILDING THEIR TECHNOLOGY LIKE IN THE ARTICLE.

The US Navy realises that its assest are best kept underwater; The Obama Administration has approved for the building of two submarines every year. The DG-21 does have speeds capable of Mach-10, but this is most likey in the terminal phase, when the missile is just being launched. The US Navy is also changed its focus from a clost in, shallow water ships to deep water missile-defense Destroyers. Coupled with Aegis Missile Defense systems, and theres decent protection against them.
While China would be able to sink American Carriers, they wouldn't be eliminating other Naval Vessels, which could easily make a retalitory strike. Again, the Navy understand this, which is why its assets are best kept underwater.

Indeed. However, they won't be able to spend what they are and get quality tech to their forces. They'd either has alot of subpar tech, or a little good/great tech.

With China so large, they do need a large military. Also, since the US tends to send their carriers into Asian waters to project their power, the missiles are a good move. Submarines are not carriers. Subs can't launch planes with missiles. Carriers can. Carriers are the big guns in the navy, take them out first, and it's easier to take out the rest. Plus, don't you think China has it's own systems to destroy any land based missile attack by the US Navy?
