I'm ruling out armor altogether because it would waste feat(s) and interfere with a few Ninja abilities, but good suggestion on the magic items.

She has a really serious problem with owing people.
Say I got a +1 and a +2 magic weapon enhancement for weapon X, would I count the total price as that of a +3 enhancement or calculate each price individually (so 2,000 and 8,000 for a +1 and a +2, respectively) and combine those prices?
No, it is +3 total. Are you remembering that you have to get a +1 Enhancement before you add a Special Ability?
