What is your favorite lord of the rings character? I am currently watching "Fellowship Of the Ring" on Netflix and I want to know what is your favorite character...

mine would either be Gollum (Smiggel) or Gandalf

I think Gimli would be my favorite character because I think dwarfs are awesome, and hes one of the funniest characters in the movie.

Either Gimli or Tom Bombadil. I saw the movies and then read the books, and I have to admit that the books were way better.

This thread asks for your favourite character, not your favourite race. Doesn't matter if dwarfs have hammers or not, Gimli hasn't; he has a battle axe, wandering axe, and throwing axes.

I always liked Saruman. He is a tragic and classic character; he was a powerful [actually, almost certainly the most powerful wizard], wise and famous wizard, nevertheless his -insatiable- thirst for power and huge ambition lead him to his doom.

Was the ring itself sentient or was it just channelling Sauron?

I'd say Gimli was the best. Stoic yet comedic and tragic yet non-emo.
