Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff!
So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P
To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!

yeah well... i think i understand it now. about the universe. But if anyone needed the universe to be explained to them as huge rocks and hot hot balls of fire then there's a problem.

Well, then we're all in trouble. Does anyone know about all the intricacies of the universe?

Here's an easy question: What is mass?

Yes, there is a problem then! :O

Well, Dragon, any other ideas for time-travel? I myself am sticking at light speed for future dilation.

Not necessarily... While we only barely scratch the surface on this matter, we are not completely clueless either.

Here I am to resurrect the thread!
Since I have no interest in time travel (sorry guys) because I feel that it is impossible, let's talk about something else.
1. Aliens.
2. Human nature.
3. Stem cell research.
4. Black Holes (and Revelations. Sorry. Muse joke.)

Well i think stem cell research is a good idea. it's not even a baby yet, it justs cells that other people can use to help them lead a normal life.

That's what I think as well. And stem cells can be used to cure tons of diseases and prevent grown people from dying.

The problem is that some people (mainly the more religious ones) believe that each person, no matter how young, has a soul, or something along those lines.

Oh it's fine, but the traveling into the future is possible, just not as you'd expect. No time machine, just speeds near light speed; time dilation.

1. Aliens.

I believe in some kind of alien lifeforms. It is so cocky and insane/bizarre for us to feel that we are the only "intelligent life" out there. I do NOT believe in the green, one eyed, crap that's out there. A UFO? Possibly, just don't make it so unrealistic I mean really abductions and little green people? Psh.

3. Stem cell research.

I'm very interested in the stem cell research. I once read in a science article, that some team of scientists have taken the fat from a surgery operation, and extracted the stem cells from it. From there, they used the stem cells to speed up the skin's healing process. It is truly amazing!
One other account, I think it is with stem cells... Scientists at (forgot University) are working on creating transplant organs from the patients own stem cells. Basically you get an exact copy of their (working and healthy) organ. This reduces the risk of organ failure, and the immune system attacking the "foreign" organ.

lolwut is this? We don't need to use early-in-development life to get stem cells... Although (slightly political now) if someone is to abort, why not just take it for that purpose... Sounds cruel but since it happens, why not make it benefit?

I agree with you here. It also bugs me that people immediately assume that Earth's life forms are the basis for life rules. Who knows? Creatures from other planets could completely contradict the laws for life that we have here on earth.

that's a good idea. why waste resources to make stem cells, when people are litteraly throwing them away. at least the lives of the babies will help make others lives better. it's almost like a noble sacrifice.
